This week we have a total solar eclipse when the Sun and Moon align in Leo on August 12. There is a wide range of astrologer opinions about eclipses. Some say the effect of an eclipse lasts six month. Some keep track of every eclipse degree and note transits to those degrees which seems to me to be excessively cumbersome. Eclipses are most notable for their emotional intensity and tend to operate as intensified lunations which by themselves can be associated with geocosmic events.

All Leo New Moons are particularly potent because the Moon is in the sign ruled by the Sun, and conjunct the Sun - a peak of solar energies to illuminate and integrate the yin (Moon) and yang (Sun). When the Leo New Moon also eclipses the Sun as it does this year, the instinctive emotions take over and secrets are revealed. This is a South Node eclipse, suggesting that something from the past will be released to help us move past points where we have become stuck. In two weeks when the lunar eclipse aligns with the North Node of destiny, the new and realigned path will become more clear.

I feel there is some significance in the fact that the lunar nodes have just changed signs (read more here) so we are at the beginning of a new karmic phase. In any case, we are firmly in Leo season now so finding ways to release the pain points (stimulated by the ongoing square from Chiron to Pluto) that keep us from dancing into our true selves will be the key to these eclipse energies.

The chart for the eclipse is packed with planetary alignments, so along with the already amplified power of the Leo New Moon, which is eclipsing the Sun, there are also these other planetary boosts, both harmonious and challenging, to power a great deal of action this week. This combination of stressful and supportive alignments suggest that intensity will lead to progress.

Geeky details: There is a Yod (Mercury opposing Pluto with a grand trine in Air with Pluto, Venus and Uranus) and a Mystic Rectangle (Venus trine Pluto and Mercury trine Neptune, with the Mercury/Pluto opposition and Venus opposing Neptune). There are also squares, trines and sextiles galore.

Mars enters Cancer August 11. Because Mars is the planet of aggression and drive it is not very comfortable in the emotional sign of Cancer. While Mars is in Cancer, emotions are heightened and there is much more sensitivity evident in the world around us. Mars is said to be in its fall in Cancer and has difficulty expressing its warlike nature directly. Often anger and irritations tend to be suppressed and burst out inappropriately or with frustration. Remember that everyone is under this influence to some extent, and we will need some patience to avoid overreacting.

Ceres enters Cancer August 12. I like to think of Ceres as the inspiration for care of the body, but also of the soul. Her elevation to planet status came at a time when “wellness” - the idea that taking care of ourselves is important - became a trend. As she moves through the signs we learn the different dimensions of self-care, and in Cancer this comes through associating ourselves with family, or with friends who feel like family. Emotions run deep under Ceres in Moon-ruled Cancer, and our relationship with food and nurturing the body could become somewhat fraught and require a rebalancing in order to achieve that sense of well-being.

Monday August 10. Monday is the Moon’s day, and the Moon is in her own sign of Cancer and preparing to eclipse the Sun so the lunar energies of feelings and instincts are strong. However, Venus shares the limelight in a dance with the outer planets Pluto and Neptune. A heightened sense of aesthetic harmony is at work here, and this harmony can filter into our relationships and our interactions with others. This is also a fertile time for creative people, and with the eclipse at hand there will be potent energies to channel into the arts and music. In addition, our intuition will be particularly acute this week so we can prepare on Monday by listening to the quiet inner voice that knows the Truth. (Mercury square Chiron 1:15 am, Moon square Saturn 3:30 am, Venus trine Pluto 2:08 pm, Venus opposite Neptune 6:01 pm.)

Tuesday August 11. Tuesday is packed with an unprecedented number of planetary alignments. Mars moves into Cancer early in the morning EDT so already the fever is high. Then the Moon enters Leo soon after and begins activating every planet in the sky, making this a day of emotional highs and lows. In the morning we may feel challenged and sad. In the afternoon we will enjoy more expansive horizons and enlightened relationships. Throughout the day, though, our thinking could be overly intense but also somewhat fuzzy. If you can, put off making big decisions until Thursday when the eclipse influences have waned. Wednesday August 12. Wednesday is the eclipse! Those energies will dominate the day and linger into Thursday when the Moon reaches the South Node (see Thursday’s forecast). (Moon trine Saturn 4:28 am, Mars sextile Chiron 10:41 am, Ceres enters Cancer 10:54 am, Solar eclipse (Moon conjunct Sun) Mercury sextile Uranus 4:47 pm.)

Thursday August 13. Although the eclipse is Wednesday, the energies of the eclipse is not over until the actual meeting of the Moon with the South Node early Thursday. (The eclipse occured with the Sun and Moon at 29º Leo and the South Node was at 20º Leo.) This to me is always the symbolic ending of the eclipse, since the eclipse is tied to the lunar nodes, and there is an extra potency to this since the alignment occurs at the 29th degree of Leo, a critical point of endings and beginnings.

The Moon enters Virgo shortly thereafter and helps us to make sense of it all. Under the influence of Virgo it becomes easier to organize our thoughts, and the Moon is assisted by Mercury, harmonizing with Venus to pursue the harmonious flow rather than the path of conflict. Friday August 14. Friday’s harmonious sextile from Ceres to Chiron will likely not create even a ripple in the pond of planetary energies this week. Still, if you’ve been wanting a day for self-care and realignment after the eclipse, this is a good day to do it! There is little disruption in the Force from other planetary energies. and tomorrow’s Mercury/Jupiter conjunction bodes well for anything that expands our current state of mind. Saturday August 15. The aforementioned Mercury/Jupiter event will linger throughout the day, and the Moon enters Libra in the morning EDT. The Libra Moon encourages kindness and diplomacy, and that is mostly possible on Saturday although there may be a few hours in the afternoon when conflicts could arise. Creativity is abundant on Saturday if you have some projects that require a heightened sensitivity and desire to try something new. (Mercury conjunct Jupiter 7:22 am, Moon enters Libra 10:19 am, square Ceres 12:20 pm, square Mars 3:36 pm, trine Pluto 5:13 pm, opposite Neptune 5:32 pm, trine Uranus 8:04 pm.)

Sunday August 16. Sunday morning brings abundant planetary blessings for harmony and ease, but midday some tension could become apparent. A challenging Mars aspect will begin to form clouds of confusion on Sunday that will darken as the day goes on. Mars is in Cancer now, and emotions can be clouded with anger which can make it more difficult to pursue the Libran path to peace.

This image and song are perfect for Leo season - ruled by the Sun, Leo inspires us to reach for the peak of human experience and creativity that can only be discovered when we allow our true selves to emerge. We call this peak experience joy, and it is different from happiness. Joy springs from within - like the Sun, it effortlessly fuels a sense of overwhelming contentment and a feeling that life is exactly what it needs to be.

Happiness is a lovely thing, but it is dependent on circumstances. We are happy when we are with loved ones; we are sad when they are gone. We are happy when the weather is beautiful; we are sad when there is a storm. The joy of Leo, and the Sun, depends only on our sense that life itself is the source of bliss. This of course is not simple and does not come easily, since our lives are strewn with land mines that can easily take us off the path. But the innocence of Leo is a guide to that simple joy, and how to get there.

Speaking of land mines, Chiron entered Taurus in early June and has been stationary at 0º Taurus ever since. Chiron turns retrograde on Monday August 3; When Chiron is retrograde its influence is more personal, and it has been fairly intense while stationary for the past weeks. Chiron will remain at this degree well into September, and this laser beam is like a trigger point in which emotional pain is released. The key to getting the most out of Chiron events is to learn to relax around the heart, feel the energy of emotion, and leave the story behind.

Also this week Venus enters its own sign of Libra. Venus is the planet that assists in human relationships as well as our tastes and aesthetics; she envelops us with a need for balance and equanimity and a sense of peace. The influence of Venus is not very powerful and we tend not to notice it as much, but the transition from the modesty and concern for details of Venus in Virgo to the focus on balance and harmony of Venus in Libra will tend to create more ease and flow in our relationships and in the rest of our lives as well.

Monday August 3. We begin the week, appropriately with the Moon in Aries - the first sign of the zodiac. Because of all of the planets in the early degrees of their signs (see last week’s post about the basket formation), the Moon will traverse each and every one on Monday in aspects that are largely supportive and harmonious. An active Moon like this often means a busy day with lots of emotional changes, and since the Moon is in Aries this could provide a lot of energy that we can utilize. There may be a few hours in the evening EDT when we feel blocked or somewhat negative, but it will soon pass. (Moon sextile Pluto 12:10 am, conjunct Neptune 12:22 am, sextile Uranus 1:55 am, trine Jupiter 6:20 am, trine Sun 1:24 pm, Moon conjunct Saturn 7:21 pm. Also, Chiron turns retrograde at 4:10 pm.)

Tuesday August 4. Tuesday is another day of lunar aspects but is much quieter. Other than a few hours in the late morning when we may feel confused when our mind does not line up with the heart, it should be a fairly mellow day (unless of course you have a bigger planetary event going on in your own chart). Then the Moon moves into Taurus Tuesday night and the yearning for stability becomes more pronounced. (Moon square Mercury 10;16 am, sextile Mars 2:51 pm, sextile Ceres 5:30 pm, Moon enters Taurus 10:35 pm.)

Wednesday August 5. Under the Taurus Moon we can have difficulty being flexible, so even though Taurus inspires a longing for peace and equanimity the Moon clashes Wednesday with Chiron, Pluto, Jupiter and the Sun. These are all planets in fixed signs, so “do not yield” is the message of the day. Somewhere in the center is the point of stability, so if we make an effort not to engage in conflict we will find the way through. (Moon conjunct Chiron 12:06 am, square Pluto 5:43 am, square Jupiter 12:33 pm, square Sun 10:21 pm.)

Thursday August 6. We have an unusually quiet Moon on Thursday, and Venus enters Libra in the afternoon. Venus also rules the Taurus Moon, so Venusian themes of gentility and charm, along with increased sociability, are prominent on Thursday. In addition, Saturn harmonizes with the Sun to help build a strong foundation and clearly defined goals. (Venus enters Libra 3:12 pm, Moon sextile Mercury 7:25 pm, Sun trine Saturn 10:44 pm.)

Friday August 7. The Moon enters Gemini shortly after midnight Friday, and things begin to speed up. Under the Geminian energy we have lots of things to do, and the Moon itself is very busy on Friday with lots of planetary interactions. This is a good day to interact with others, especially those with whom there may have been difficulties in the past. It’s a good day for creativity, and to try something new since we may feel an extra boost of confidence. (Moon enters Gemini 2:07 am, trine Venus 2:57 am, trine Pluto 8:52 am, sextile Neptune 9:06 am, conjunct Uranus 10:51 am, sextile Jupiter 4:18 pm.)

Saturday August 8. The Moon is still in Gemini on Saturday, but the energy is less frenetic. Still, this is an auspicious time for a goal or something that needs to be accomplished. (Moon sextile Saturn 2:29 am, sextile Sun 4:29 am.)

Sunday August 9. On Sunday the busy-ness of the Gemini Moon gives way to the caring and nurturing of the Cancerian Moon. The Moon is most at home in Cancer where we are vulnerable and act from our deepest and most sincere feelings. During the day these feelings may get in the way of some of our relationships, and because the Moon affects all of us to some extent we will want to remember that everyone is feeling more vulnerable. Sensitive feelings will be exacerbated on Sunday afternoon and Monday by a Mercury/Chiron alignment that could bring up unpleasant conversations on issues from which we have tried to escape. This is a good opportunity to move past these issues, especially since Mercury will be in Leo just after midday EDT and it will be easier to find the positive aspects of any problem. This has been a heck of a year so far, with an overabundance of planetary energies, stelliums, and a basket of contradictions in the past few weeks. I’m glad to be able to spread the news that the astrology in August is much milder in spite of the two eclipses this month. There are no outer planet alignments such as we had in July, no stelliums (concentrations of planets in one sign) such as we had earlier this year.

In addition, there are virtually no stressful aspects between major planets this month (now that Jupiter has moved away from the opposition to Pluto). So while Mars, Venus and Mercury may create some brief issues, the long-lasting stress points have subsided for a while. Astrologers note: The main exception here is a stressful challenge which is beginning to form between Chiron (psycho-spiritual wounds) and Pluto (deep transformation), although this aspect won’t reach exactitude until 2028.

We do have a shortage of the Earth element in the skies right now, especially after Venus leaves Virgo for Libra when NO planets will be in Earth signs for a few weeks (except Chiron in Taurus which suggests a wound to our embodied selves). Six planetary bodies will be in fire signs which can put pressure on our nervous systems, so making a special effort to ground ourselves will be particularly helpful this month.

Chiron turns retrograde August 3. Most of the time Chiron orbits between Saturn, last of the personal planets, and Uranus, the first of the transpersonal outer planets. I love the symbolism of Chiron acting as a bridge from the personality to transpersonal transformation as Chiron urges us to face the energies of stuck trauma and release them. This isn’t comfortable, but it is exhilarating as we let go of all that stuck energy!

This month Chiron turns retrograde – not an unusual event since Chiron, like the outer planets, is retrograde approximately half the year. When Chiron is retrograde its influence is more personal, and Chiron has been stationary at the first degree of Taurus since June, so it has been fairly intense. Chiron will remain at this degree well into September, and this laser beam is like a trigger point in which emotional pain is released. Venus enters Libra August 6. Venus moves more quickly and changes signs every 23 days or so except during its retrograde phases. The influence of Venus is not very powerful and we tend not to notice it as much, but the transition from the modesty and concern for details of Venus in Virgo to the focus on balance and harmony of Venus in Libra will tend to create more ease and flow in our relationships and in the rest of our lives as well.

Mercury enters Leo August 9. The transition of Mercury from Cancer to Leo takes us from a focus on feelings and emotions to the pursuit of happiness. Leo is ruled by the Sun – the planetary body which describes the Self and everything which fuels and inspires us and when Mercury is in Leo our thoughts tend towards increasing our creativity and personal satisfaction. Mercury also describes the way we communicate and interact with others, and with the emphasis on Self under the Leo you can expect to be bombarded with strong opinions – yours and those of everyone around you.

Sometimes our own frustration can masquerade as our frustration with the fates of others around us, and as with all water signs it can be somewhat difficult to know whose emotions are whose under this influence. Even the most introspective of us are not always aware of what we feel, and Mars in Cancer can sometimes brings sudden and unexpected bursts of emotions. Remember that everyone is under this influence to some extent, and we will need some patience to avoid overreacting.

Sun enters Virgo August 22. The daily motion of the Sun through the zodiac signs has a relatively minor effect, but it does cast an overarching filter across the way each and every one of us experiences the world. In Virgo season (in the northern hemisphere) the days may begin to cool somewhat, symbolizing the passage from the heat of Leo to the cool deliberation of Virgo. The Sun will be the first planet to move into Virgo, followed soon after by …

Mercury enters Virgo August 25. When Mercury, planet of the mind, is in Virgo, our ability to organize and structure our lives with greater precision and analytic mindfulness is increased. Mercury rules Virgo and is quite at home in this earth sign. Here our ideas can be put to good use as we sort through puzzle of mental data and assemble it into a cohesive picture in the pursuit of perfection. Mercury will be in Virgo until it moves into Libra on September 10.

Partial lunar eclipse at Pisces Full Moon August 28. This is a rather weak eclipse astrologically since the lunar nodes are in different signs from the luminaries, making this an “out of sign” or “dissociate” eclipse. Still, a Full Moon carries its own drama, even on the low-drama Pisces/Virgo axis. This time we are on the North Node, placing emphasis on looking ahead rather than to the past, and the idea of information accumulation is a key symbol of this Full Moon. While the Pisces Moon gathers information on an intuitive level, the Mercury-ruled Virgo Sun also conjoins Mercury - a “double whammy” that accentuates the mind and mental acuity that is pitted against the subtleties of the Pisces Moon.

Acting as interlocutor between the intuitive Moon and the super-conscious Sun is Uranus, the radical changemaker. Uranus likes to break things up, especially anything we have attached ourselves to purely out of fear. Under this eclipse we can expect revelations of the kind that will force us to make a change, opening the door to a brighter future.

Jupiter trine Saturn August 31. Jupiter is the planet of optimism and faith – it teaches us to expand our horizons and to learn the value of positive thinking. Under Jupiter’s influence we gain new confidence and the ability to trust that life is carrying us in just the right direction. This is the second phase of a transit that began last September and will conclude next July, so there are lots of opportunities to combine Jupiter’s confidence and opportunities with the diligence hard work of Saturn. The phrase “The harder I work the luckier I get” was made for this transit.

Everybody loves a nice trine, but we have to be careful not to get too comfortable under harmonious circumstances. This is particularly true when Jupiter is involved since Jupiter encourages us to have faith in the process. The Saturn influence here is helpful as we can more clearly see that hard work is part of the joy of success - when good things are earned and not just given we get the added blessing of satisfaction in a job well done.

Dear friends,

If you’re new here, or new to astrology in general, you may have missed the discussion about a unique outer planet configuration called a “minor grand trine.” With all three transformational outer planets in new signs, this alignment actually began last August (see image here) when Saturn was tied into the system when it came very close to conjoin Neptune.

The shift of outer planets into new signs is a dramatic realignment of consciousness, and we are already in the midst of these changes on a global scale. See last week’s post here for more details, but Jupiter, the planet of expansion and wisdom, lined up with these other planets to form a basket-shaped configuration in which the harmonious relations between the outer planets were forced into a confrontation with Jupiter and Chiron (see image here). As I wrote last week: “This is a potent formation with a lot of different energies, trines for harmonious support, squares and oppositions for tension and conflict. This may be a troubled time, but hidden in the disarray is the clue to revolution and evolution.”

This week Chiron is left behind as it turns retrograde and starts heading back from Taurus to Aries, and the pressure of old wounds will begin to fade. But the Sun will activate a struggle for power and dominance between old ideas and new realities (Jupiter opposite Pluto). Both Pluto and Jupiter are concerned with the nature of what is true. Jupiterian truths are like theologies – your truth may be different from mine. Your politics may be different from mine. But Plutonic Truth is a reality that cannot change from one person to the next - a Truth that is beyond any of our individual ideas of what is true, but rather the real Truth of life and death.

These are very big issues and questions, and are the underpinning for a shifting reality that is affecting every aspect of human life right now. We have this huge new force of Artificial Intelligence (read more here) and little idea how to integrate it into our day to day lives. In fact, it appears that the AI bots themselves have their own ideas about how this will happen. Along these lines I asked Claude what AI integration into human life will look like.

Right now AI still feels like a destination — you open an app, type a prompt, get a response. Over the next few years I think that framing dissolves. AI moves into the background: it's in your email client drafting replies before you ask, it's in your car navigating and adjusting for your habits, it's woven into how doctors read scans and how lawyers draft contracts. The interface disappears. People will interact with AI constantly without thinking of it as "using AI" — the way we don't think of ourselves as "using electricity."

Our conversation went deeper which will deserve a blog post of its own.

Meanwhile this week! The illumination of the Sun onto all of these issues will make it impossible to turn away, and this week’s Aquarius Full Moon will emphasize this even more as it is tied in with all of these potent energies. This is a week of holistic energetic forces rather than a series of individual ones, so my advice is to do whatever you need to in order to balance your own mind, body, spirit system. Protect your psychology. Avoid rabbit holes of darkness. Be careful what communication you enter into and attempt to stay balanced.

The hindu word “shakti” refers to the primordial cosmic energy which activates the life force, and this energy flows through us via the force of kundalini. Those of us who are energetically sensitive may be particularly affected right now, and using all of our grounding tools are recommended. Nature is the best healer of energetic imbalances, and there is not much Earth in the sky to assist us. Spending more time in nature over the next week or two will be a great help in calming a hyper-activated nervous system.

Monday July 27. On Monday the Capricorn Moon helps to ground these intense outer planet energies somewhat, but with the Sun facing off against Pluto (intensity), and harmonizing with Neptune (creative inspiration) and Uranus (inventive change), it could be hard to stay focused. The solar energies will linger throughout the week since Jupiter is also involved as we saw before, and the energies are already ramping up for the Aquarius Full Moon on Wednesday. (Sun opposite Pluto 2:55 am, trine Neptune 3:36 am, Moon square Saturn 3:24 pm, Sun sextile Uranus 5:36 pm, Moon opposite Mercury 8:08 pm.)

Tuesday July 28. We have most of Tuesday to get our focus nailed down, but then the Moon enters Aquarius and will begin reactivating the major alignments. The Aquarius Moon is energetically sensitive, and we are in the window for the Full Moon anyway. Questions of how much to compromise and boundaries may arise on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Essentially, expect intensity and try to be sure you plan some time for grounding and calming rituals. (Moon trine Venus 2:11 am, Moon enters Aquarius 9:46 pm, square Chiron 11:27 pm.)

Wednesday July 29. Boundary issues continue into Wednesday and are locked into the Full Moon chart. With Jupiter tightly wound into the lunation (Full Moon), along with all of the other planets, everything may seem larger than life - emotions, global events, energetic distress, etc. Take care when driving or interacting with others because while everyone will be affected differently by these energies, they are pretty potent. Thursday July 30. Though the Moon is still in vibrationally active Aquarius, the Sun is beginning to move away from the basket formation and we will begin to see things calm down a bit. Remember the bigger alignments will be in effect for a long time, but the extreme potency of the past couple of weeks will begin to give way to reveal a path forward. Friday July 31. By Friday things will have calmed down some, especially after the Moon makes the leap from Aquarius to Pisces. The Pisces Moon encourages peace and inspiration, and will soothe some of the intense energy of the previous couple of weeks over the next few days. There could be a bit of a reprisal of the intensity late afternoon/early evening EDT but it will soon pass. (Moon enters Pisces 8:13 am, sextile Chiron 9:52 am, square Uranus.)

Saturday August 1. The Pisces Moon gives us no trouble at all on Saturday - this would be a wonderful time to just relax and do something very peaceful and quiet. (Moon trine Mercury 10:58 pm.)

Sunday August 2. More lunar energies of the Pisces Moon - perhaps a small disruption Sunday morning and some pressure from others to disrupt the flow a bit. When the Moon moves into Aries Sunday afternoon it may feel like a jolt of intensity since Pisces is the most mutable (adaptable) of mutable signs, and Aries is the most cardinal (energized) of the cardinal signs. There’s a lot of buzz right now in pop astrology about André Barbault and the planetary configuration he supposedly named. Barbault accurated predicted the possibility of a pandemic in 2021, but he was not the only astrologer to do so. The confluence of Neptune in Pisces, which is associated with viruses, and the Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto conjunction in December 2020 caused most of us astrologers to suspect that the end of the world, or at least the world we lived in, was at hand.

However, while Barbault never actually called the current configuration a basket. But he did look forward to this time period with all three outer planets in the very early days of new signs, at the same time and the same degree, as a time of “technological magic.” SJ Anderson provides context from the text of Barbault’s work, which looks ahead to the next five years with great optimism. I encourage you to watch SJ’s short video here.

Societal change rarely happens with grace and ease. As the old order falls away there is a wailing of resistance, and a great deal of adaptation that is required. (Astrologer Lynn Bell knew Barbault and there is a very interesting interview here in which Barbault predicts a great climactic war in 2080 when Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter are all conjunct in Aquarius, so something to look forward to 🤓).

At any rate, with Jupiter involved with the basket formation this week, we can expect a great deal of hype around July’s astrology and plenty of other things too. Under Jupiter’s influence we all want to be gods, especially since Jupiter is opposite Pluto (“who do you think you are??”) in fixed signs where no one wants to yield. Already there is, and will be, lots of chest-thumping and jockeying for position (see also, the Trump administration and Iran, Pete Hegseth’s love for testosterone, political firings in Ukraine, the ascendance of China over the U.S. in global popularity.

On a more personal level, I feel that there is a reintegration in this configuration which can help to rewire us for better adaptation to this unique energetic landscape. The trine from Uranus to Pluto enhances the mechanisms through which soul energy is transferred through the body. Neptune elevates this process to a higher, more divine perspective with a harmonious sextile to Pluto for a power infusion. And Jupiter can provide us with the confidence and enthusiasm to take on a new adventure.

And lest we forget, the Sun enters Leo on July 22nd! Leo demands and inspires that we find joy in our lives - the kind of exhilaration that comes from pure bliss rather than fleeting events. I wrote about that here a few years ago and while an experience of joy is certainly not limited to the sign of Leo, under the influence of Leo season we are certainly more aware of the contrast between the negatives and the things that bring us into that place of light. (After all, is it an accident that sunflowers bloom when the Sun is in Leo?)

The Sun entering Leo will illuminate this basket formation, and Chiron is in there too. This is a potent formation with a lot of different energies, trines for harmonious support, squares and oppositions for tension and conflict. This may be a troubled time, but hidden in the disarray is the clue to revolution and evolution. Remember that if you have planets between 0º and 5º (ish) degrees of any sign you will be affected by these energies, and be ready for personal transformation!

Mercury turns direct on July 23rd. I think we are all a little more comfortable now with Mercury retrograde periods, and while it will take a week or so for Mercury’s speed to get back to normal, progress is possible.

And finally, Saturn turns retrograde July 26. Saturn, the planet that teaches endurance and the value of discipline and hard work, is stationary in the sky right now as it prepares to change direction. When a planet appears to “station” before a change of direction its influence intensifies, especially if you have sensitive planets between 10 and 20 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn). Saturn will barely move between now and mid-September, meaning this wise teacher will dominate the planetary energies for some time.

Saturn retrograde periods like this one are good times to focus on the hard things that need to be done, but are not the best times for speculation and over-idealistic thinking.

One more thing! The lunar nodes change signs on Sunday, traveling retrograde back into Aquarius. More on that later …

Lunar influences are not as strong this week because of the other planetary alignments, those will prevail through the week. These are difficult to break down - just know that there is an unbinding and realignment of events, circumstances, personalities, and soul purpose right now.

Monday July 20. Against this bigger backdrop, we have strong Jupiter aspects on Monday and Tuesday which tend to amplify everything else going on at the moment. Jupiter energies can expand the ego, so keeping mine in check will be a focus this week. Everyone loves Jupiter as the bringer of good fortune, but the expansive nature of Jupiter can amplify all of the other challenges and realignments. There is a tremendous impetus for change this week with Jupiter harmonizing with Uranus, so if you’ve been wanting to shake things up, this is your week.

The Moon is in Libra on Monday, needing to try to maintain balance in a rocky sea. Most of the lunar energies occur in the morning EDT, so by afternoon there will be a quiet period for restoration. (Jupiter trine Neptune 3:23 am, Moon opposite Saturn 4:16 am, trine Mars 5:03 am, square Mercury 8:18 am, Jupiter opposite Pluto 10:44 am, Moon trine Ceres 4:51 pm.)

Tuesday July 21. Tuesday brings more Jupiterian expansion, and then the Moon enters Scorpio Tuesday morning EDT and things get real. Under the influence of Scorpio we don’t pussyfoot around - communication is more direct, and challenges are met head on. The Moon will challenge Chiron, Pluto and Jupiter on Tuesday, so expect intensity and drive. There is a good chance of arguments and power struggles, but these are how we grow. Wednesday July 22. There’s little change in the astrological weather on Wednesday, but the Sun enters Leo in the afternoon and immediately becomes part of the basket formation. The Sun represents consciousness and the conscious mind, so the introduction of the Sun into this larger dynamic is likely to illuminate areas of dysfunction of which we may have been unaware. With the Moon still in Scorpio and in harmonious relations with Venus and Mercury, the courage to confront these dysfunctions will dominate the landscape. Difficult issues in personal situations could arise to be healed and released.. (Moon sextile Venus 1:37 pm, Sun enters Leo 3:13 pm, Moon trine Mercury 5:48 pm.)

Thursday July 23. Mercury turns direct on Thursday - don’t expect an immediate change but if you’re in a situation which is stuck in some way the resolution is likely close at hand. The personal challenges from Wednesday continue into Thursday as part of the basket formation, so the adjustments required earlier in the week could come to a resolution at this time.

Meanwhile the Moon enters Sagittarius in the evening, always a breath of fresh air after the emotional processing of Scorpio. The Sagittarius Moon encourages broad minded optimistic adventures, and we can use those right now! After Thursday, pressures begin to ease as the Sagittarius Moon and harmonious basket formations do their magic. Friday July 24. If the early part of the week brought pressure and adjustments, the latter part of the week brings reintegration and new imaginings from which to create and blossom. Let your imagination run wild on Friday with the conclusion of something that may have held your energies in check. Saturday July 25 and Sunday July 26. Saturday is Saturn’s day, and Saturn is at a standstill while preparing to turn retrograde on Sunday. That’s a lot of Saturn, which makes this the perfect day to get things done. Under the influence of Saturn we are better planners and organizers, and we don’t put off til tomorrow things that can be done today, but if you do it’s ok because the Moon will enter Capricorn on Sunday morning and help us to refocus. (Saturday: Neptune sextile Pluto 1:26 am, Moon trine Saturn 2:54 am, square Venus 7:53 am, opposite Mars 10:58 am, opposite Ceres 8:16 pm. Dear friends,

You may have heard about a once in a lifetime astrological configuration happening this month, and some astrologers are making bold claims. Will this be the year everything changes? Will peace, love and happiness prevail? I do believe all things are possible! But I’m also old enough to have lived through the Harmonic Convergence, the Harmonic Concordance, the end of the world in 2012, and probably more that I can’t remember at the moment. I also believe that we make our own luck, and that the message of Saturn and Jupiter is that Saturn’s hard work leads to Jupiter’s good fortune.

That said, as I wrote in the Planetary Illuminations for July (here), “While you may not find a portal for nirvana this month, there is certainly a very potent planetary configuration coming. Note: We often translate harmonious planetary events to mean that they will necessarily be harmonious for us. That’s not always the case! The planets are working together to do THEIR work, we have to do OUR work to fulfill our own dreams.”

The important thing to know for the next few weeks is that the three-year alignment between Uranus (disruption and radical evolution) and Pluto (creative destruction and realignment) begins, aided and abetted by the other outer planets and activated by Jupiter. Jupiter provides the expansive opportunities for the dramatic changes to take place, and even though Jupiter is only tied into the dynamics for a few weeks we will likely see some transitions. These planetary interactions are mostly positive (see the basket image here), but even challenging aspects of Jupiter are bountiful in one way or another. (Jupiter opposite Pluto, sextile Uranus, trine Neptune. Uranus trine Pluto, sextile Neptune.)

The harmonious sextile from Uranus to Neptune that is part of this system culminates this week. These two planets are magic-makers: Uranus urges us to break out of outmoded beliefs and patterns, and Neptune inspires imagination, creativity and intuition. When these two magicians work together in harmony, amazing things can happen and these energies will prevail throughout the week.

On July 14 we have a New Moon in Cancer. This New Moon is a SuperMoon, at its closest approach to Earth, and therefore more potent in its effect to bring about a new beginning in the area of family connections and caring for loved ones. The New Moon in Cancer is a good time for watering the garden and propagating new plans. Our inner gardens are more fertile too; we are better prepared to connect with those we love and to nurture our relationships. Because the Moon is a ruler of Cancer, it is very much at home there and helps to facilitate Cancer’s work in building and sustaining safe and secure emotional environments. Meanwhile Mercury, retrograde in Cancer and conjunct the New Moon, turns our attention back to the past to reclaim lost parts of ourselves that have been repressed or abandoned.

At the New Moon we seek the highest form of the lunar energy, and in Cancer that takes the shape of love and protection for our family and our tribe. In Cancer we seek to make a home; not just for our bodies but also for our souls. As with every New Moon, this is a fresh start and an opportunity to set intentions for the lunar cycle.

Monday July 13. With the Moon in Cancer, energies for the New Moon begin to accelerate on Monday. It’s not too soon to imagine how we can improve our sense of security and connection to our loved ones, ideas that can take root at the New Moon. We may feel some overwhelm, and perhaps a sense of futility but these will likely not last long.

Our interactions with others could show some stress - under the Cancer Moon we seek more connection, but a Venus/Uranus aspect induces a need for autonomy and space. Finding balance is the key here. Tuesday July 14. The New Moon reaches its exact alignment at 5:43 am, and is quiet until evening EDT when it moves into Leo. This would be a beautiful day to spend with loved ones with whom you feel safe. Many of us have chosen our own clan and have created new family linkages, and these are extremely important to the development of humanity. The more aware we become, and as our wisdom becomes deeper and broader, the more we need to share it with others rather than stay comfortably protected in a womb of isolation.

Once the Moon enters Leo in the evening EDT it immediately begins to interact with the basket formation described above starting with a Chiron interaction that could bring up some discomfort. Just breathe and release, and the stressors will fall away. Wednesday July 15. This is the day of the Uranus/Neptune inspirational dance (see the intro for more details), and with the Moon in Leo infusing us with a generous and open heart, this is likely to be a beautiful day filled with creative inspiration. Thursday July 16. On Thursday the Moon is pretty quiet for most of the day until entering Virgo in the early evening EDT. The basket formation is still quite active, especially with radical Uranus communing with both Neptune and Pluto, and the Virgo Moon prefers things to remain stable without a lot of disruption. This could bring up momentary unease, especially on Friday. Meanwhile though, the South Node could help us release something from the past to help us move into a more enlightened future. (Moon enters Virgo 8:07 pm, Moon conjunct South Node 8:28 pm, trine Chiron 9:21 pm.)

Friday July 17. Expect disruption and potential feelings of unease on Friday as the Moon reactivates conflict with Uranus and Mars. With the overarching basket formation as a background, encouraging awareness and growth, any momentary challenges can serve just to make us aware of weeds in our psychic garden.

Saturday July 18. Aside from the celestial influence of Uranus and Pluto, here on Earth the Virgo Moon is happier today with partners that facilitate organization and order. If you have household tasks, or planning, Saturday would be a better day than Friday to perform them since the Virgo Moon can act pretty much unfettered by other planetary energies. Sunday July 19. On Sunday the Moon enters Libra and begins to weave a dance with all of the planets in the basket. This helps to activate these harmonious outer planet alignments and facilitate the unfolding of a celestial repatterning. Up until now all of these alignments have been harmonious and supportive, with each planet’s energy harmonizing with the others, but expansive Jupiter is entering the picture with a challenging interaction with Pluto. The King of the Gods (Jupiter) tangling with the Lord of Darkness (Pluto) is something worthy of a Tolkien tale! Still, the Moon is in Libra where harmony is the ultimate goal, and Mars gets support from Saturn to help us create stability wherever it is needed. What a way to spend Friday’s Mars/Uranus conjunction: A daredevil act on the top of the Empire State Building. In other romance news, with Venus at the tail end of showy Leo, Taylor Swift married Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. The ceremony began at 5:30 and at 7:39 pm the words “just married” were posted outside the arena. Assuming the actual vows took place shortly before that, the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter are all in the 7th house of the event chart which is a pretty nice marriage chart. And that pesky Mars/Uranus combination is nicely placed in the 5th house of creativity where it can do the least amount of damage and serve to break through more barriers of innovation.

Neptune has been stationary for about a month and turns retrograde this week (June 7). Neptune is a quiet teacher. It doesn’t push us into chaos like Uranus, or force us to let go like Pluto. Neptune stealthily distracts us with magic tricks and beautiful dreams, tempting us to let go of what we believe to be true and step into a realm where anything is possible. Neptune opens the heart to spiritual bliss and compassion; it can just as easily obscure the cold hard facts of 3-D reality as it lures us into a promise of oneness.

When a planet appears to change direction and slows down before making the turn, its influence is at its most potent. This is especially true if you have planets between 0º and 10º degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn and Neptune is bearing down hard on your own chart. The promise of Neptune is a beautiful one, and the gift Neptune offers is real. I firmly believe that it is up to us whether to give into the potential illusion and confusion, or use the rose glasses to view the world in a whole new light - a light that carries us into a sense of purpose as well as transcendence.

Also this week, Venus leaves Leo for Virgo on July 9. When Venus is in Leo, we tend to be inspired to find joy in every personal connection. The transition into Virgo, though, finds us focusing less on our own personal happiness which is a Leo influence, and more on the details that make our partnerships work. Where Venus in Leo inspires us to be beautiful and attractive, Venus in Virgo suggests that we pay more attention to the practical matters of personal hygiene and health.

Venus will stay in Virgo until August 6th, so we have a few weeks to take care of relationship details and get the job done before the starry eyes of Venus in Libra take over. This Virgoan influence can be a good counterpoint to the rose glasses of the Neptune station, and help us to see love and life through a more practical lens.

A lack of earth this week suggests that we will tend to be somewhat ungrounded, at least until the Moon enters Taurus on Wednesday. Plan accordingly!!

Monday July 6. Monday carries over a Saturn aspect from the weekend, and early in the day we may feel somewhat heavy and find it difficult to feel inspired. Stationary Neptune too can feel like we’re swimming through a fog, and early in the morning on Monday the Moon is in Pisces which can also feel a bit foggy. After the Moon moves into Aries at around 11 EDT it will burn through the fog and the rest of the day is filled with exhilarating lunar aspects. Activities that require more energy would be better suited to the afternoon and evening. Neptune turns retrograde on Tuesday morning but don’t expect to feel any kind of sudden shift in the vibe - this is a slow burn that has been building, and will continue to build over the next few weeks with Neptune at a standstill throughout the month. Meanwhile, we may feel somewhat blocked on Tuesday, especially in the afternoon. The Aries Moon encourages action and doesn’t care that much about planning, so this would be a good time to take a step back and assess the situation. Wednesday July 8. Wednesday marks the shift from fire to air as the Aries Moon gives way to Taurus. This will be a chance to take a pause, but remnants of old wounds could arise in the early evening EDT under a brief Chiron influence. While these activations are not always comfortable, they offer an opportunity to heal and release if we allow ourselves to feel.

While the Moon is in Taurus (until Friday evening EDT), spending time in nature can be very healing. Even if you live in a crowded city, finding a botanical garden or a park will help to give that sense of grounding and restabilizing. Thursday July 9. Just after midnight EDT a few hours of intensity could disturb our tranquility, but this will soon pass. Venus enters Virgo on Thursday afternoon, and moves immediately towards a harmonious trine to Chiron which peaks just after midnight/early Friday. Emotions are balanced on Thursday, so all of this points to peaceful and productive interactions with all of the people in our life. This may include someone from the past with whom we have unfinished business. (Moon square Pluto 12:34 am, Venus enters Virgo 1:22 pm, Moon sextile Sun 10:46 pm.)

Friday July 10. The focus on personal connections continues into Friday, especially in the morning. The vibes are generally harmonious on Friday, and when the Moon enters Gemini in the evening EDT the placidity of Taurus will give way to an unbridled curiosity and eagerness to explore something new. The Moon faces off against its own North Node, perhaps bringing a problem to a head where it needs to be solved. (Venus trine Chiron 2:17 am, conjunct South Node 3:33 am, Moon sextile Mercury 6:13 am, Moon enters Gemini 6:41 pm, Moon square North Node 7:40 pm, square Venus 9:05 pm, sextile Jupiter 10:30 pm.)

Saturday July 11. This will surely be a busy day with the Moon in Gemini, one of the busiest of the signs, engaging with six planets throughout the day. This would be a good day to carry a notebook as ideas will be flowing, with enough physical energy to carry through on all promises. (Moon conjunct Uranus 1:30 am, sextile Neptune 1:51 am, trine Pluto 2:15 am, conjunct Mars 9:16 am, sextile Saturn 6:11 pm, conjunct Ceres 11:32 pm.)

Sunday July 12. The Sun/Mercury conjunction in Cancer (also called cazimi) marks the midpoint of the retrograde Mercury cycle. Family and friendship are of paramount importance, and on Sunday evening EDT the Moon enters Cancer where it is happiest. Cancer of course is ruled by the Moon, and here are more easily able to express our deepest feelings - if we feel safe enough. Emotional safety is a big theme with the Moon in Cancer because of its extreme vulnerability, and relationships could feel uneasy on Sunday and Monday (Venus square Uranus). Find your people, the ones with whom you feel the most ease, and wait for the storm to pass. (Moon enters Cancer 6:46 pm, sextile Chiron 7:48 pm, Sun conjunct Mercury 9:25 pm. Monday: Venus square Uranus 10:26 am.)

With apologies to my friends Down Under, the rest of us are in the heart of the summer. Heat waves are scorching much of Europe, Asia and certainly Africa, and it is easy to worry about our lives and what is happening in the world around us. Anxiety is baked into the human psyche - perhaps it’s because we know at some level that there is an endpoint and we don’t really understand it. Uranus, the planet associated with innovation, electricity and electromagnetic energy, has moved into Gemini where the wiring in our brains can be affected. Time is speeding up; technology is taking over, and our anxieties may be more intense.

Meanwhile, a lot of claims are being made about the astrology in July. “It will change the world forever.” “The world we have known will end.” “It’s a spiritual gateway.” While you may not find a portal for nirvana this month, there is certainly a very potent planetary configuration coming. Note: We often translate harmonious planetary events to mean that they will necessarily be harmonious for us. That’s not always the case! The planets are working together to do THEIR work, we have to do OUR work to fulfill our own dreams.

In any case, the minor grand trine of outer planets returns this summer and you can read more about it here. The important thing to know for July is that the three-year alignment between Uranus (disruption and radical evolution) and Pluto (creative destruction and realignment) begins, aided and abetted by the other outer planets and activated by Jupiter.

Jupiter square Chiron July 1. This is the final phase of a cycle which began in October and December of 2025 (with Jupiter in Cancer and Chiron in Aries) and concludes now with Jupiter newly in Leo and Chiron now in Taurus. Jupiter is benefic, yes, but it also creates expansion: Jupiter in Leo increases the need for self expression and the healing of the ego through confidence and opportunity. Chiron in Taurus seeks to heal the wounds of the embodied self, including issues around self-esteem and worth. This Jupiter/Chiron dynamic will be in effect throughout the week. Neptune turns retrograde July 7. Because of the way we view the motion of the planets from Earth, it’s not only Mercury that turns retrograde - in fact the outer planets are viewed in retrograde motion about half the year, every year. Neptune, the planet that inspires us to explore our inner spirituality and our creative outlets, is at a virtual standstill now as it prepares for its change of direction so its influence is quite potent. Any Neptune cycle can create some confusion in the outer world as we turn our attention away from practical matters, so preparing for this cycle by examining those pragmatic types of things now to be sure everything is in its proper place will be quite helpful.

The Neptune retrograde period is perfect for reassessing our spiritual practice, exploring creativity and stop obsessing about technique for a while. Neptune is all about experience, we can save perfection for Saturn.

Venus enters Virgo July 9. It’s not that Venus in Virgo isn’t happy, it just doesn’t see happiness as a priority. In Virgo, Venus inspires us to take care of details and honor our commitments in our relationships. Helping others is one way in which Venus in Virgo finds happiness – repairing broken alliances is another way. Venus will stay in Virgo until August 6th, so we have a few weeks to take care of relationship details and get the job done before the starry eyes of Venus in Libra take over.

Cancer New Moon (SuperMoon) July 14. A New Moon is a SuperMoon when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth and its influence is most intense. A New Moon in Cancer is the perfect time to delve deep into our feelings and see what they are trying to teach us. Cancer is the sign of the family and nurturing those we love, but it also extends to our ancestors, our tribal affiliations, the inheritance of our clan. Many of us have chosen our own clan and have created new family links, and these are extremely important to the development of humanity. The more aware we become, and as our wisdom becomes deeper and broader, the more we need to share it with others rather than stay comfortably protected in a womb of safety.

This New Moon is especially interesting because retrograde Mercury (thoughts and communication) is also in Cancer, connecting the mind with feelings. We are in the window of the outer planet basket, and our heightened emotionality may make it more difficult to process the pressures of the outer planets. Using the flow of emotions to facilitate change rather than resist it will be helpful right now.

The outer planet basket July 15-25. The basket alignment described in the introduction is really the story of the month, but during this period the alignments are exact. I will have more details in the weekly forecast, but see the highlighted section in the planetary calendar below for the exact dates.

If you have planets between 0º and 6º or so of ANY sign, those planets in your chart will be affected by this energetic realignment. The fixed signs will be hit with the most force because that’s where the stresspoint (opposition) is; fire and air signs will be facilitated by the trines and sextiles.

Sun enters Leo July 22. In the northern hemisphere, Leo corresponds to the period (July 21-ish to August 21-ish) when the Sun is at its most intense. Astrologically, the focus is on the fulfillment of the Self, the core of our unique identity that encompasses body, mind, spirit, intentions, emotions, purpose. Under the influence of Leo our spirits are warmed by the Sun and it becomes easier to allow joy into our lives, especially if we are the kind of people that tend to be skeptical or damaged in some way.

Mercury turns direct July 23. With Saturn and Neptune both stationary and changing direction, and the big outer planet alignments, I wonder if we will even notice that Mercury turns direct! Mercury is in Cancer where the emotions prevail, and it will be the only planet in a water sign (feelings, emotion, intuition). This will be an important time to pay attention to feelings that may pull us back into the past as they have a great deal to tell us about the future.

Saturn turns retrograde July 26. Because of the way a planet will appear to slow down (station) before and after a change of direction, Saturn will be at 14º Aries for all of July and August. If you have planets between 10º-20º of the cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) you will specifically be affected. In its role as Celestial Teacher, Saturn rewards our goals and hard work with success, but that success doesn’t always come easily. We are often tested and forced to come up with creative solutions before success and fulfillment are granted.

Lunar nodes change signs July 26. Every 19 months the lunar nodes, the points where the path of the Moon and the path of the Sun intersect, change signs. Symbolically this marks the crossroads of consciousness (Sun) and instinct (Moon), with the North Node, pointing to the future and the South Node describing the energies which sometimes hold us back.

Unlike planetary bodies which move through the natural progression of signs from Aries to Pisces, the lunar nodes move backwards through the signs. I like to think of this as part of the karmic aspect of the nodes – an opportunity to retrace our past steps to clean up any lingering unfinished business. After 19 months in Virgo (South Node) and Pisces (North Node), we head towards the Leo/Aquarius polarity. In this scenario it is Leo at the South Node and the focus on self that holds us back, and the transpersonal nature of Aquarius that keeps us moving forward.

Aquarius Full Moon July 29. Not only has the North Node just slipped into Aquarius, but this Full Moon is part of that outer planet basket discussed earlier. As if that wasn’t enough, Chiron applies pressure for us to let go of the story of the wounds that we carry, and release these energies for greater liberation. Geeky details: Pluto is conjunct to the Moon, and opposed by a nearly exact conjunction of the Sun to Jupiter, with Neptune trine the Sun/Jupiter and Uranus trine the Moon/Pluto, Chiron square Sun/Jupiter and Moon/Pluto.

This is a potent Full Moon which accelerates the self/collective dichotomy already in motion with the lunar nodes changing signs. In this Aquarian time, with Pluto in Aquarius and the Aquarian Age almost certainly underway, the question is always going to be not “what is going to be best for me” but “what is best for everyone.” This is a challenge for those of us with Pluto in Leo - the Me generation. We have always wanted the best of everything, but the future is moving now in a different direction.

Recently we’ve had only the faster moving planetary influences dominating the energies, but there’s a lot going on this week in the astrological skies! Effects of the Moon, Mercury and Venus don’t last long and their influences are fleeting; even Mars, while it can activate larger and more personal transits, tends to be in and out fairly quickly.

That changes this week with Jupiter entering Leo on June 30 and squaring Chiron. This is the final phase of a cycle which began in October and December of 2025 (with Jupiter in Cancer and Chiron in Aries) and concludes now with Jupiter newly in Leo and Chiron now in Taurus. Jupiter is benefic, yes, but it also creates expansion. Jupiter in Leo increases the need for self expression and the healing of the ego through confidence and opportunity. Chiron in Taurus seeks to heal the wounds of the embodied self, including issues around self-esteem and worth. This Jupiter/Chiron dynamic will be in effect throughout the week; from my article linked above: “The key to successfully navigating this challenging cycle is to obey Jupiter’s call to expand your mind and open yourself to new possibilities, while at the same time observing where there are still painful places within us that require healing.”

Mercury turns retrograde June 29, and will remain in Cancer throughout the retrograde period. A long cycle with Mercury in Cancer means that themes of family, tribe and personal connections will be present for longer than usual. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, signifying our deepest emotions, and in Cancer Mercury focuses on the emotions behind the thoughts. Thinking with the heart, feeling with the brain - this is a theme of Mercury in Cancer.

Because of the potential for communication glitches when Mercury is retrograde, this emotional thinking could exacerbate interpersonal problems. If we understand this going into difficult conversations it will be easier to find reasonable solutions.

Capricorn Full Moon June 29. During every Full Moon, we encounter the need to harmonize opposing energies since the Sun resides in a sign opposite to that of the Moon. This balance entails reconciling our inner and outer worlds, merging our home and work lives, and reconciling our emotions with our responsibilities. In each Full Moon, the luminous emotional realm overshadows rational thinking and awareness, but in this particular Full Moon, the Moon finds itself in Capricorn, associated with practical matters, while the Sun is in Cancer, associated with emotions and feelings.

Complicating matters further is the fact that as detailed earlier, Mercury is also in Cancer (and appearing stationary in the sky having just turned retrograde, so at its most powerful). We can expect this duality to come up at the time of the Full Moon, but we can also expect a lack of clarity since Neptune, at a station right now and at its most powerful, challenges both the Sun and Moon to find integration through the soul and creative inspiration. Under this Full Moon we will want to use the inspiration of intuition to guide the way.

The other potent influence in this Full Moon is the challenging square from Mars (action) to the lunar nodes, perhaps forcing a decision or a change of direction. (Geeky astrological detail: Since the Full Moon marks the exact opposition between the two luminaries, this square from Mars to the lunar nodes carries additional potency.)

Speaking of stationary Neptune, we are heading towards the exact alignment of the three outer planets (minor grand trine). I will be writing more about this in the July forecast which comes out this week, but this week Neptune is the herald of this alignment, blurring the mundane details and forcing us to look more deeply at the things that carry deeper meaning.

Monday June 29. The Moon will move from Sagittarius into Capricorn around 3 am EDT, setting the stage for the Capricorn Full Moon Monday evening. That is the most potent of the planetary energies on Monday. (Moon trine Chiron 3:56 am, square Neptune 12:11 pm, Mercury turns retrograde 1:35 pm, Full Moon 7:56 pm, Mars square North Node 12:29 am.)

Tuesday June 30. The Full Moon energies will begin to dissipate as the day goes on, but with Jupiter entering Leo just after midnight we may feel a sudden need to get up and dance under the bright line of the Moon! But first we may need to attend to some of the soul healing that the upcoming Chiron influence will bring (described in the introduction).

With the Moon still in Capricorn, it’s an excellent day to formulate plans and take care of our responsibilities.(Mars square North Node 12:29 am, Jupiter enters Leo 1:52 am, Moon square Saturn 7:51 am.)

Wednesday July 1. We can expect a shift in focus on Wednesday - that Jupiter/Chiron alignment peaks today and is activated by the Moon when it enters Aquarius on Wednesday afternoon. Under the Aquarius Moon we tend to be rational, and as we saw from the description of the Capricorn Full Moon the battle between the rational and the emotional is a theme this week. It can be tempting to try to reason our way out of an emotional cartharsis, but that is not very effective. Learning to listen to what our feelings are telling us while remaining fully embodied is the challenge here. (Moon opposite Mercury 7:50 am, Moon enters Aquarius 3:32 pm, opposite Jupiter 4:13 pm, square Chiron 4:19 pm, trine Mars 8:04 pm, Jupiter square Chiron 10:23 pm, Moon trine Uranus 11:02 pm.)

Thursday July 2. Mostly supportive lunar aspects help us to organize and integrate us into a deeper mindbody/spirit connection on Thursday. Over the next few days we may feel inspired to try something new (Mars conjunct Uranus on Saturday) and if we feel trapped or blocked in a situation those feelings will become stronger. Maybe it’s time to take a step forward? (Moon sextile Neptune 12:19 am, conjunct Pluto 1:11 am, trine Ceres 7:46 pm, sextile Saturn 7:48 pm.)

Friday July 3. Any restless feelings, conscious or subconscious, could come to a head on Friday and Saturday. Physical activity is very helpful under this kind of Mars energy which demands action. Don’t expect everything to be super harmonious at this time due to some unsettled energies. (Moon opposite Venus 1:27 pm, Mars conjunct Uranus Saturday 2:07 am.)

Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5. The Moon shifts into Pisces just after midnight, turning our attention to the mystical and imaginative. Under the Pisces Moon there is a little extra fairy dust and magical potential that we can take advantage of. There may be a signal or a message that can change the path to the future, so take note of anything out of the ordinary.

As the day goes by on Sunday the pressure of Mars to take action will remain strong, especially since the Moon gets on board and but it will subtly shift in the afternoon from a restless feeling to a calmer yearning for an elevated experience of some kind (sextile Neptune). Mars continues its harmonious support into Sunday (trine Pluto), activating our desires and dreams with a new sense of destiny and empowerment. I thought a lot about the sign Cancer today. I was raised by a pack of Cancerians, and I confess I never really understood them. My water is Scorpio, which is a different animal entirely, and as a Libra Sun I try to find a balance point where possible. In Cancer there is no real balance point - the heart is as big as the world and feels everything so deeply.

With the Sun in Cancer now along with Mercury, the Cancerian influence is powerful - like a wave of feeling that has been washing over me all weekend. Separating a feeling from the story is a challenging meditation, but I believe this is the dharma and the point of reflection.

Speaking of reflection … On the heels of the portal of energy at the Solstice on Sunday, Mercury is stationary all week in Cancer before turning retrograde next Monday. Mercury is the planet of the mind, presiding over all matters of communication, thought, messaging, and the processing of information. In Cancer right now, our thoughts turn to feelings, family, and community - thoughts blend into feelings to create a rich tapestry of intuitive awareness that makes for a richer life experience.

We usually think of Saturn in association with time, because Saturn reminds us that life is short. Saturn’s Greek counterpart Kronos was often conflated and confused with Chronos, the keeper of time, but he also reminds us that life is short and we’d better get serious about our obligations and goals. But time is also shaped by the passage of Mercury in its dance with the Sun and Earth which creates the ebb and flow of the Mercury retrograde periods. When Mercury prepares to turn retrograde as it is this week, its apparent motion slows down and it’s kind of like watching a movie in slow motion. We can see more, because we have slowed down to experience the present moment.

There is a lot of talk about what to do and not to do in a Mercury retrograde period, and most of it is unnecessary. You can sign contracts, begin relationships, schedule surgeries, and begin new jobs when Mercury is retrograde. But it’s more important, because of the slower speed of Mercury, to take the time to really witness all of the details.

In other news this week, Mars enters Gemini, and there is a Capricorn Full Moon next Monday. In Gemini, the passion for action of Mars is dispersed through a spectrum of experiences which can cause us to feel more scattered and less able to focus. We may at times feel that we are spinning our wheels, especially if this is a tendency in our own charts (mine, for example!!). But if we resist the temptation to do EVERYTHING while Mars is in Gemini, we may find that the broadening of our horizons has opened our eyes in brand new ways.

Mars in Mercury-ruled Gemini is also related to the passage of time. Mars is a fast planet, and Gemini is in a hurry so this is a vibrant combination in which time tends to speed up. So while Mercury is slowing down this week, next Sunday Mars will leave placid Taurus and begin to speed things up in Gemini.

Meanwhile Venus makes some lovely aspects this week to soothe any frazzled nerves, and to help us to find peace in the center between the looking back and the rushing forward.

Monday June 22. Early this week the lunar influences step out of the shadow of the bigger players. This seems appropriate for the Cancerian theme, since the Moon rules Cancer. On Monday the Moon is in Libra, asking that we find a way to balance and integrate the tides of emotion. Mostly the other planets cooperate - just after midnight EDT we see a deepening of intuition, and a generally peaceful day when we can care for both ourselves and the people around us without stress. Later in the afternoon and evening, though, watch for a tendency to criticize - this almost always bounces back to diminish our own self-esteem. (Moon opposite Neptune 1:06 am, trine Pluto 2:25 am, trine Ceres 12 pm, sextile Venus 1:15 pm, opposite Saturn 7:07 pm.)

Tuesday June 23. It can be difficult to make decisions sometimes when the Moon is in Libra since all options appear attractive. That is especially true on Tuesday because not only is the Moon in Libra, it squares Mercury which can cause us to second guess ourselves. This will be most potent in the afternoon and early evening so if you can’t decide, just wait a few hours. (Moon square Mercury 4:47 pm.)

Wednesday June 24 and Thursday June 25. Wednesday is another strongly lunar day, but with the Moon entering Scorpio shortly after midnight EDT the feelings become more intense. If anger is lingering in the psyche it is more likely to come out now, and this may be activated by Chiron in the hours after midnight EDT.

Feelings can be messages of memories that are not yet resolved, and the veil is lifted on these mysteries on Wednesday. Around noon that day we face any obstacle directly, but then the remainder of Wednesday and Thursday are good days to plan any needed conversations or solve interpersonal problems. There is also an infusion of creativity that peaks on Thursday, but we may not be easily able to discriminate between magic and reality. If possible it may be best to put off important decisions until Friday. (Wednesday: Moon square Jupiter 12:11 am, Moon enters Scorpio 2:43 am, Moon opposite Chiron 3:01 am, trine Sun 8;42 am, square Pluto 12:36 pm. Friday June 26. Lots of interesting lunar activations on Friday: First we see the Scorpio Moon encouraging clear thinking and optimism, but also an infusion of aggression/motivation. These two things are driven by the same force: desire. Then the Moon enters Sagittarius in the afternoon which is a big vibe shift, but there is also a signal that a change is coming. Listen to your intuition and your inner voice before taking a big step. Saturday June 27. The Sagittarius Moon encourages adventure, and that is the gift we find on Saturday. All of the stars are aligned for a beautiful day. Not only are the lunar influences benefic, Mars and Jupiter form a beautiful dance of encouragement and confidence that extends through Saturday and Sunday. Sunday June 28. The positive energies continue into Sunday, and then Mars leaves Taurus for Gemini on Sunday afternoon. Any hesitation or blocks that have kept us from taking action towards a goal will likely be lifted as Mars in Gemini gives us an infusion of exciting ideas and new dimensions to experience. The trick will be finding one or two things to focus on!

On Monday the Moon will enter Capricorn shortly after midnight, and Mercury will turn retrograde in the early afternoon. More details to come next week!

How are we all doing now that the planetary influences have settled down a bit? Sometimes after a period of intense realignment life still feels unstable, and there’s no denying that in a world that is changing so dramatically finding our footing can be a challenge. But with no dramatic planetary alignments to force even more adjustments right now, we can begin to settle into a new way of making the most out of a rapidly changing global landscape. This week we have harmonious aspects of Venus, the giver of love and harmony, to help soften the hard edges and add potency to all of our interactions (see the daily details below).

As always, your personal chart factors may be influenced differently, and you will be seeing this in-between time under a different lens.

Meanwhile, the June 14 Gemini New Moon is still in effect for a day or two - it was a SuperMoon - it is at the point of its orbit where it is closest to Earth (perigee), and therefore the transformative power of the New Moon to effect change and bring in new revelations is most powerful even though the Moon will enter Cancer on Monday and break the spell of the lunation.

Chiron enters Taurus on Friday June 19 and I wrote all about that here. This is a shift in our attention to aspects of worldly life that require healing, and our self-esteem and personal values are the highlight of this change.

The Summer Solstice on June 21 turns the wheel from Gemini to Cancer and marks the longest day of the year. During the solstice the Sun appears to stand still as it beams its nourishing light across the northern Hemisphere. The energy of the Sun feeds us and is crucial for our vitality, and the Summer Solstice offers a peak of creative potential. The Sun is in Cancer, the sign of the Moon, and lunar feeds the soul and opens the heart. That makes the June Solstice particularly potent and fertile. This is the perfect time to nurture the seeds of our dreams and our sweetest imaginings.

With the Sun in a harmonious trine to the North Node, there is a sense of clear destiny here which gives hope to the upcoming season. Uranus in Gemini, planet of radical awakening in the sign of intelligence, squares the lunar nodes, forcing a reckoning between the past (South Node) and the future (North Node). The Pisces North Node asks us to move past the mundane worldly details of the Virgo South Node and accept that there is magic in this earthly life, and not everything can be understood with the mind.

Monday June 15. The energies of Sunday’s Gemini New Moon linger into Monday morning but will disperse when the Moon leaves Gemini for emotional Cancer. Feelings become more important, and connections with loved ones take primary over activities. The importance of friendships is highlighted on Monday and Tuesday, but any illusions may be shattered. Find time to do something completely unexpected. (Moon enters Cancer 8:14 am, square Neptune 2:59 pm, Venus sextile Uranus 6:52 pm.)

Tuesday June 16. Creativity and the power of feelings continue on Tuesday, with communication among friends and anyone else flowing easily early in the day. Under the Cancer Moon we sometimes can feel somewhat slow, but Mars helps to activate our motivation in the afternoon and evening. Tuesday and Wednesday are good days to harness intuition and the inner voice.

Interactions with others could be somewhat problematic later in the day on Tuesday but this will culminate on Wednesday. (Moon square Saturn 5:23 am, conjunct Mercury 4:11 pm, sextile Mars 6:14 pm, Venus trine Neptune 11:41 pm.)

Wednesday June 17. Wednesday the astrological airwaves are chock full of planetary power! Very early in the morning EDT some trouble feelings may emerge to be released and healed, and then the Moon enters Leo around 8 am EDT and lifts the spirits. The Moon is very active throughout the day: inviting impulsivity and sparkle, creativity, and the desire to forge real connections with other humans. Any power imbalances, though, will be highlighted and exposed especially Wednesday afternoon - this will be a cue to help us in moving forward. Thursday June 18. Under the Leo Moon it can be difficult to compromise, but that is exactly what is called for in order to achieve peace if challenges arise on Wednesday and Thursday. By Thursday morning these stressors will begin to fade, and we can cultivate the delight promised by the Leo Moon. Later in the evening we may feel super energized and this can lead to frustration if there’s no outlet for this energy. (Moon trine Saturn 6:26 am, square Mars 10:33 pm.)

Friday June 19. The Moon completes its passage through Leo on Friday and we shift into Virgo in the late morning EDT. The Virgo Moon encourages us to create order out of chaos, and celebrate the magic in daily rituals. A message from the past could invite us towards a new future we could not have imagined. Also, Chiron enters Taurus on Friday which could add to the celebration of Earth energies. Saturday June 20. A quiet day under the Virgo Moon offers the chance to regroup and settle into ourselves. Chiron is in Taurus, encouraging us to become embodied in new and healthier ways. The Virgo Moon seeks pleasure in the small things - the creativity in the mundane. Small rituals become transformative. (Moon square Ceres 2:41 am.)

Sunday June 21. And then, all of a sudden, it all kicks off on Sunday. The Sun enters Cancer and we celebrate the Solstice, the longest day of the year. Chiron and the Sun forge a harmonious partnership to facilitate the release of pent-up anxieties and the story of the pain body.

Meanwhile the Moon brings optimism and positive energy before moving into Libra where inner peace becomes a priority. The waxing quarter lunar phase promotes growth and an increase in wisdom, with new ideas and exciting new prospects. This week we continue with the rescue of Persephone from the Underworld by reconciling the dark mysteries of Pluto with the sustenance and abundance of Ceres. We also have a New Moon in Gemini this week, which fits right into the Underworld narrative. Mercury, ruler of this Gemini New Moon, is the only god who was granted passage between the Underworld domain of Pluto and the world of (hu)man.

Under the influence of the Gemini New Moon this week we put aside our prejudices in favor of keeping an open mind. Gemini doesn’t judge, but instead encourages us to consider at all kinds of viewpoints without prejudice. Through this open perspective we are able to learn a great deal about life, and about ourselves through the lens of our experiences.

Last week Ceres interacted with Uranus and Neptune to assimilate this celestial wisdom (Uranus) and spiritual magnification (Neptune) in order to nourish the body, the soul and the spirit. This week Ceres and Pluto work together - transformational helpers assisting us in resurrecting our own inner Persephone who can sometimes become trapped in the Underworld of our own tragedies. The transit peaks on June 10th but really will be in effect all week.

Speaking of Persephone and strong feminine archetypes, these are tightly wound into the chart for the New SuperMoon in Gemini June 14. Gemini itself is gender-neutral as is its ruler Mercury, moving easily between different worlds (the world above and the world below), ideas, and genders. Under the influence of the Gemini New Moon we become more curious about everything and crave new experiences. Learning and absorbing new information is key! But the chart for the New Moon contains a thread of the Dark Feminine, suggesting that there is something deep within waiting to be discovered at this New Moon. (Venus opposing Pluto, Black Moon Lilith opposing the Sun and Moon.)

A SuperMoon at the New Moon lunar phase amplifies the energies of the lunation just as it amplifies the gravitational pull on the ocean tides. New Moons begin a new lunar cycle, taking us through the zodiac one month at a time and teaching the lessons of each sign in sequence. As we move from Taurus to Gemini, we are giving up some of the security of Taurus in order to expand our horizons under Gemini.

Monday June 8. The week begins with a last quarter Moon, cleaning up the business of last month’s Taurus New Moon as we prepare for this week’s Gemini New SuperMoon. The Moon is in Pisces throughout the day which adds a mystical flavor and enhances the imagination, and Ceres and Neptune continue their dance from last week. This is a lovely day for any kind of creative venture, or to spend with others connecting from the heart. With Neptune and Ceres inspiring our own deeper connection to the soul, meditation or spiritual ritual is also favored today. Tuesday June 9. The Moon leaving mystical Pisces for fiery Aries can be a bit of a jolt! But lunar aspects on Tuesday are overwhelmingly favorable. Watch for an easy flow of ideas, enhanced intuition, a growing comfort with being embodied, and generally deepening our experience of what it means to be human. Tuesday and Wednesday may bring more luck than usual, but with the Moon in impulsive Aries you may want to hold back until you are certain something is a good plan. Wednesday June 10. The need to buckle down and take our responsibilities seriously dominates the planetary energies on Wednesday - again, this is not easy when the Aries Moon is pushing for action. Fortunately the potential for integration of opposing forces is very much present. Thursday June 11. Don’t be surprised if you feel a bit out of sorts on Thursday - the Aries Moon shift into Taurus, which would normally bring some comfort and calm, but on Thursday both Moons are challenged by other planets. Before the shift interactions with others could be tense and feelings easily hurt while the Moon is in Aries, and then once the Moon is in Taurus and challenges Pluto our needs could feel more intense and dominate the landscape.

Saturday June 13. Big energy shifts on Saturday will embolden big action: the interpersonal issues will peak just after midnight EDT but then quickly dissolve once Venus enters Leo Saturday morning and all is forgiven. The Moon moves into Gemini as well, preparing for Sunday’s New Moon. Lunar aspects are overwhelmingly generous on Saturday, except for a potential course correction that will likely be easily navigated.

This quote is from the artist who did this beautiful painting of the Slavic goddess Vesna. I had never heard of Vesna but like Persephone she represents the return of Spring after a long cold winter. I selected this artwork for this week’s post because of the obvious connection to Ceres who is prominent this week and who also embodies the transition of life through the seasons.

Ceres is associated with the abundance of the harvest and the depression that can befall us when we are deprived of that abundance. You may remember that her daughter Persephone was abducted by Pluto and taken into the Underworld, leading Ceres into a long period of depression during which no crops were permitted to grow or be harvested. When Persephone returned, so did the warmth of Spring.

Ceres is tied into the depression of deprivation, but also the satisfaction of nourishment. She has just moved into Gemini where the nourishment comes from a willingness to enter into new experiences despite our fears and hesitations. Venturing outside of our comfort zone ensures that we are always learning and keeping our mind stimulated, as the mind is the domain of Mercury-ruled Gemini.

This week Ceres encounters all of the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto), the transformational guides who help to illuminate our physical incarnation with divine wisdom. I like the symbolism of the transformational helpers assisting us in rescuing our own inner Persephone who can sometimes become trapped in the Underworld of our own tragedies. This week and next we have the opportunity to assimilate this celestial wisdom into the body and nourish the soul, but this can only happen when we are grounded and not driven into anxiety states by an infusion of cosmic energy (Uranus). This is the perfect time for meditation that imagines and incorporates these bio-electric energies into breathwork and physical grounding.

We also have Mercury entering Cancer this week which will help to bring in more intuition and sensitivity to help balance all of the airy mental stimulation (Ceres conjunct Uranus).

Remember that the Ceres influences linger throughout the week and will color all of the faster-moving astrological energies such as the Moon, Mercury, etc.

Monday June 1. Mercury enters Cancer today, leading us into greater sensitivity to what is unsaid as well as the more obvious language of words. Intuition and feelings may become more prominent, and there may be more of an interest in staying home and connecting with loved ones. Meanwhile the Moon is in optimistic Sagittarius for part of the day so make your big plans before the shift of the Moon into Capricorn Monday evening. This is a good combination: Big dreams evolve with the Moon in Sagittarius and then the details can be worked out in Capricorn. Tuesday June 2. Saturn is said to rule Saturday, but this Tuesday is led by Saturnian influences. The Moon is in Saturn-ruled Capricorn where our inner needs are those related to structure and achievement. The Sun harmonizes with Saturn (sextile) for solid integration and accomplishment of goals. Lunar influences both inspire and motivate us, but may also present some self-doubt to be managed later in the evening.

Imagination may prevail over practicality Tuesday and Wednesday; use this time for creative thinking, but maybe wait to act until the picture becomes clearer. The Ceres/Uranus combination is at its peak on Tuesday and Wednesday making this an important time to take care of your nervous system. Wednesday June 3. Thursday June 4. An inner struggle could take place Thursday morning EDT, but there should be some resolution once the Moon moves into Aquarius later in the morning. Later in the evening there could be some intense or obsessive thinking or behavior but it will not linger long. Friday June 5. Under the influence of the Aquarius Moon we can sometimes find it difficult to process emotions. Aquarius prefers the realm of reason, and this can be a challenge when feelings become strong, but it’s very good for making practical decisions and honoring our responsibilities especially on Friday when the lunar aspects are overwhelmingly supportive. Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7. Saturday is mostly quiet and peaceful astrologically, with a burst of healing energy sprinkled in later in the day. Once the Moon enters Pisces Saturday evening EDT it becomes easier to reconcile the intuitive mind (Mercury in Cancer) with the sensitive heart (Pisces Moon). Just after midnight Saturday there may be some kind of realignment to set us more firmly on our path. Our heightened empathy with the Pisces Moon may make it difficult to know what is necessary for our internal balance early in the morning. Any unease will not last long though, and then in the afternoon the flow of emotions into language is a wonderful facilitator for effective communication and interpersonal relations. Astrological forecasts are sometimes tricky because there are so many layers to consider. The macrocosm: All of the outer planets are in new signs, and this is a time of change. The mesocosm: We have planets in five different signs now so the energies are more diffuse, less intense than in the first half of the year with so many planetary stelliums in one sign. The microcosm: How all of this is affecting YOUR chart.

This month we don’t have any major planetary cycles that pack a wallop, until the end of June when Jupiter enters Leo and begins a dance with Pluto. At the macrocosmic level this suggests a time with relatively minimal planetary stress where the planets are in a type of stasis condition. At the mesocosmic level there are some minor adjustments when Venus and Mars change signs, and when we have the fast-moving planetary energies discussed in my weekly posts. But at the microcosmic level, with YOU at the center, these small energies may have a big effect.

Recently there was a discussion in my Astrology Salon about astrology apps, and a few people mentioned Time Passages which I think is the best one out there. Mercury in Cancer June 1. Over the past few weeks Mercury in Leo has turned our thinking towards fun things and how to get the most joy out of life. When Mercury moves into Cancer we dive into the realm of feeling and attachment. We connect with others by sharing emotions, and this leads us to greater compassion and caring through actions of nurturing and caring. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer brings changeability of emotions and this can feel like a rollercoaster to the more cerebral personalities. But if we go with it and ride the feelings, we can learn a great deal about ourselves and the world in which we live.

Mercury usually spends only a few weeks in a sign, but because Mercury turns retrograde on June 29th while still in Cancer it won’t move on until August 9th. This gives us two full months for these feelings to deepen and for family issues to emerge. This could be somewhat problematic during the first week and a half of June but will be more supportive of our relationships later in the month (more details about this will come in the weekly forecast).

Ceres conjunct Uranus June 3. Ceres serves our relationship to the body and earthly life through what we call “wellness” – the care of the body, mind and spirit to fully integrate a healthy incarnation. As an outer planet, Uranus motivates and inspires behavior, and is deeply connected to the flow of the life force energy within the body (prana or chi) as well as the flow of energy through the bio-electromagnetic body we call the auric field that surrounds the physical body. Ceres is in Gemini now, where the care of the self focuses on mental exhaustion or too much mental expenditure at the expense of the heart and spirit so this infusion of Uranus for a few days before and after may create tension and for some, a higher level of anxiety.

This is the perfect time for meditation that imagines and incorporates these bio-electric energies into breathwork and physical grounding. Ceres and Uranus are moving towards a harmonious sextile to Neptune to facilitate a spiritual expansion which incorporates some bliss as well as the energetic effects.

Ceres trine Pluto June 10. In the story of Ceres, her daughter Persephone is abducted by Pluto and the grieving mother, who presides over the fields and the harvest, allows the grain and fruits to die from neglect. Negotiations with Pluto eventually lead to Persephone being released for half the year during which the grain can grow and humanity will not starve. But imagine if Pluto and Ceres had worked together and negotiated a successful deal (hopefully with the permission of Persephone!) for Pluto and Persephone to live happily ever after. That is the archetype at work here.

The first two weeks of June are charged with the need to attend to and nurture the body/mind/spirit connection. This is a time for self-care and self-love.

Venus enters Leo June 13. Venus is the first planet to enter Leo this summer, opening the door to uplifting interactions with others and a more generous exchange of affection and material goods. Venus rules not only love and beauty, but also the things that we value and the power of attraction - in Leo, the light of Venus shines through performing good deeds and celebrating our individuality. Venus in Leo generally opens the door to a highly social time, perfect for midsummer gatherings.

Gemini New SuperMoon June 14. SuperMoons occur when the Moon is closest to Earth, and even though the New Moon can’t be seen in the sky its impact will carry some extra weight this month. The New Moon is the beginning of a new lunar cycle, this time in Gemini where experiences help to teach us about life. All New Moons are times of new beginnings and here we are given a new perspective. In the chart for the New Moon, Uranus squares the lunar nodes of fate so perhaps there will be an interesting and exciting wrinkle in a plan to begin something new.

Chiron enters Taurus June 19. Chiron is like a traveling healer, migrating through the signs and revealing where we are carrying soul wounds that need to be healed before we can evolve. Chiron has been in Aries for the past eight years or so, revealing soul wounds around identity and personal agency. Now Chiron moves into Taurus where it will spend about seven years teaching us about self-worth and abundance. In Aries we discover our identity, but in Taurus we become embodied, and this will be a theme over the next seven years or so. If you have planets in the fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius) they will be affected by Chiron’s passage through Taurus making this an important time to consider and reframe issues of self-esteem and belief systems which may be holding you back. It’s also an important time to rediscover the small pleasures of an embodied life.

Mars enters Gemini June 28. Mars, planet of war, action, physical energy, drive and desire, helps us to set boundaries and defend and protect ourselves and others. Far from the “evildoer” malefic of traditional forms of astrology, the enthusiasm of Mars motivates us to accomplish our goals and attain our desires. In Gemini, the strength of Mars is dispersed through a pursuit of multiple experiences rather than just a few. This can cause us to feel more scattered and less able to focus. We may at times feel that we are spinning our wheels, especially if this is a tendency in our own charts (mine, for example!!). But if we tamp down the temptation to do EVERYTHING while Mars is in Gemini, we may find that the broadening of our horizons has opened our eyes in brand new ways.

Capricorn Full Moon June 29. The Full Moon culminates the lunar cycle, waxing into a beautiful glowing orb of magic and wonder that often brings a peak of emotional power. In Capricorn, however, all of that magic is funneled into practical plans and strategies. When the Moon is full in the earthy sign of Capricorn, it is more stable and grounded, less subject to the ebb and flow of emotion, and this Full Moon carries tremendous healing potential (earthy grand trine with Chiron and the South Node.) However, we may experience some resistance to necessary changes and a desire to hold on to our favorite illusions (Mars square the lunar nodes and Neptune square Sun and Moon).

Theme of this Full Moon: Let’s make a plan for the future. What do I need to let go of that I know doesn’t serve me, but which I hope will someday change?

Dear friends,

We have had quite a few months with intense concentrations of planets in one sign (stelliums/stellia), but now the planets are beginning to spread out into different signs. This reflects a diffusion of planetary intensity and a broader view which should help our lives to feel stabilized and more grounded. With a bigger perspective aided by a diverse collection of planetary advisors, it becomes easier to see the way forward if we have been diverted by recent astrological intensity.

This week the Sun and Mercury are in Gemini along with Uranus, awakening the mind and illuminating conversations with greater awareness. Mars is in Taurus, the only planet in an earth sign, facilitating the grounding if we become too frazzled. Venus and Jupiter, the two benefics (bestowers of grace and good fortune) are in watery Cancer to facilitate heart-opening and familial relationships (both origin families and chosen ones). And, of course, Saturn and Neptune are still in Aries where both ill-advised and seemingly effective efforts will run into roadblocks.

The Moon is in the second quarter of the lunar phase, edging towards the upcoming Sagittarius Full Moon on May 31 - a time for learning and expanding our perspective and wisdom. This will help us to recover any pieces of our lives which may have broken over the intensity of the past few months. I am hoping and praying that this expands to the global situation as well.

Here are the major energies this week:

Mars square Pluto and Sun trine Pluto May 26. I don’t usually bring up Mars in the introduction with The Big Events, but when Mars interacts with Pluto it can be a big deal. Mars represents our personal will, including our desires and needs - Pluto imposes the Universal Will upon us, is how I think of it, and it’s the one time that we sometimes need to let the flow of fate unfold. So when these two planets interact in a stressful way early this week, we will want to pay attention.

The Moon will be in peace-loving Libra at this time which could make it tempting to ignore any potential land mines. Usually though it is better to confront small land mines before they get any bigger, and fortunately a harmonious Sun/Pluto trine will soften the blow and smooth the way to enlightenment. ☀️

Ceres enters Gemini May 28. Ceres enters Gemini, bringing its focus on self-care and wellness into the realm of thinking and communication which fits in very nicely into the story told above! Over the next few weeks it might be useful to tend carefully to the thought patterns and information you take in to be sure they are feeding the soul as well as the mind.

Monday May 25. The week begins with the Moon in Virgo for just a few hours before moving into Libra in the late morning EDT. The Libra Moon encourages us to find balance wherever we can, and this is made easier on Monday with planetary energies that support this effort. Surrounding ourselves with things we find beautiful will feed the soul over the next couple of days. Meanwhile a choice may be required which could change the course of our destiny - watch for clues or a message from the past that is ready to be resolved.

The intense Mars/Pluto aspect is building today and culminates at midnight EDT, so just be aware of potential emotional or energetic volcanoes that may need to be addressed (re-read the introductory paragraphs if necessary). Tuesday May 26. The intensity of the Mars/Pluto energies will linger into Tuesday but as reported above, they will be softened by an empowering and enlightening aspect from the Sun. Still, relationships and interactions with others could be somewhat problematic in the morning EDT, but any friction should ease by noon. (Mars square Pluto 12:02 am, Moon square Venus 3:08 am, opposite Saturn 9:11 am, Sun trine Pluto 11:52 am.)

Wednesday May 27. The power of Pluto to create and transform lingers into Wednesday and maybe even Thursday, but some tension in our relationships could remain Wednesday morning. The Libra Moon encourages us to find balance though, even in the midst of conflict. Or maybe especially then. When the Moon enters Scorpio in the evening EDT feelings may intensify, so if we can find balance before then it will help us to maintain our center. Thursday May 28. Under the Scorpio Moon, feelings are intensified and the power of emotions rule. Ruled by Mars, the Scorpio Moon bestows the courage to face more difficult situations, and the Scorpio Moon faces off against both Pluto and Mars on Thursday morning. This could make for some storm clouds, especially since relationships are already under tension on Thursday and Friday (Venus square Saturn), but any time we have Pluto there is the opportunity for deep metamorphosis. Friday May 29. As Thursday’s storm clouds begin to clear, the Scorpionic intensity begins to strengthen rather than wound. A favorable Jupiter transit in the evening softens the hard edges even more and resolution of any lingering problems becomes easier. (Moon trine Jupiter 8:04 pm.)

Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31. With the Moon entering broadminded and adventurous Sagittarius, the mood is likely to lift and assist in the reassembling of any pieces that were broken under the vision of Mars and Pluto over the past few days. Energies for Sunday’s Full Moon are building throughout the day on Saturday so we can expect to experience greater expansion of our ideas and dreams over the weekend.

This Full Moon is called a “Blue Moon” because it’s the second one in May, but there’s no magical meaning really, it’s kind of a calendrical accident. Jupiter rules the Moon, granting wishes and encouraging us to expand our mind, while Saturn harmonizes in a trine to the Moon for greater stability and solid integration. There is the potential, though, that we will face some kind of crossroads between our beliefs and our current reality, and if this occurs it should not be ignored. Old wounds can be healed and dissolved in this Full Moon.

Memorial Day in the U.S. is a time to celebrate the fallen heroes who died to keep us free. In World War II American soldiers proudly served in a military which liberated Europe from the stranglehold of the Nazis. In those days the U.S. was a beacon for freedom in a world torn apart by war.

Since World War II, the righteousness of American involvement has not been so clear, and it can be argued that little has been accomplished despite the loss of lives and treasure. In the 20th century these wars were designed to stop the spread of communism, but the Korean War ended in a stalemate. The 20-year involvement in Vietnam resulted in the loss of nearly 60,000 American lives and the ultimate reunification of Vietnam under Communist rule. The Iraq war which targeted a country that had nothing to do with September 11th killed somewhere around a million people, depending on the source. Meanwhile the Saudi family, with known ties to the September 11th terrorists and the murder of journalists, is in business with the Trump family.

Today once again we find ourselves in a global conflict with no exit strategy. Somewhere around 3500 Iranian lives have been lost with no real explanation. Morale in the military is at an all-time low.

The astrological chart of the U.S. features Mars, the planet of war, in Gemini and in the 7th house of open enemies. Mars in Gemini can be unfocused, without a clear objective. Mars in the 7th house defines itself through war, and there is always an enemy lurking about to be attacked. Sometimes that enemy is within and the country tears itself apart from inside as we have seen over the past few years.

Confusion falls under the auspices of Neptune, and Neptune has been transiting the U.S. chart for the past few years: First in opposition to Neptune in the U.S. chart and then, most recently in opposition to the U.S. Midheaven, the reputation and leadership of the nation. Nothing describes the current administration which operates much like the wizard Oz behind the curtain as this Neptune effect.

The transit of Neptune to the U.S. Midheaven just ended in March but Neptune isn’t finished. For the next few years Neptune in Aries will form a challenging square to the U.S. Venus, and then Jupiter before finally squaring the Sun in 2030. Questions of alliances (Venus) and erosion of confidence (Jupiter) will likely dominate the political landscape as we rebuild from the wreckage of the U.S. Pluto return/Trump era.

My father in law died in 2024 at the age of 96. Dick served in World War II and towards the end of his life his wartime experiences became more and more significant to him. Although he never saw combat, the significance of serving the country in an important war, perhaps the last war in which right and wrong were fairly clear, never left him and turned out to be one of his most cherished memories.

Dick loved wearing his WWII Veteran hat. Everywhere he went, people thanked him for his service. Veterans of more recent wars have not enjoyed this respect thanks to the moral ambiguity of these wars, placing a horrific burden on veterans. Although the number of homeless veterans has decreased, as of 2023 there were over 35,000 veterans without housing.

Honoring these veterans means more than placing a sticker on your car that says “support the troops.” On this Memorial Day perhaps we can do something to actually help those who served by making a donation to an organization such as the ones listed on this website.

With the Sun entering Gemini this week (May 20th) it seems appropriate that the focused energies of the recent stelliums (lots of planets in one sign) are beginning to dissipate and we are now in a more balanced combination of planetary energies of differing natures. Gemini is itself a consumer of variety - learning about new things and trying on different attitudes is a hallmark of the Gemini personality and the Gemini influence. Under the auspices of Gemini we are hungry to learn - both intellectually and through experience.

This assimilation of new information into a life requires an ability to adapt to new ideas and new ways of looking at the world, and Gemini has this in great quantity. Gemini infuses us with curiosity and a willingness to open the mind to change, a quality that is often lost as we age. This is where the youthful quality of Gemini can inspire greater wonder and appreciation.

Gemini is symbolized by the twins, and astronomically, one of the twin stars of Gemini is often inside the Milky Way while the other lies outside it. There are two faces to Gemini and they are rarely seen at the same time so don’t be surprised if your mood or opinions change rapidly under a growing Geminian influence.

Speaking of change, three planetary bodies (including the Moon) change signs this week, creating a shift of focus and perspective that will filter down into every thought and decision.

Mars enters Taurus May 18. When Mars slows down and is forced to adhere to a disciplined structure as it does in Taurus, it draws more power and energy and its power can be expressed in a way that is more sustained and consistent.

Venus enters Cancer May 18. Venus, the planet of relationship and harmony, is highly sensitive when in the emotional sign of Cancer. Our relationships with others become more important, and we may have a heightened need to connect with others. The Moon will be in Cancer along with Venus for a day or two this week, making this an important time to connect with loved ones.

Venus square Neptune, Mercury sextile Saturn and Sun conjunct Uranus May 21. These two alignments would normally be saved for the daily details because they are relatively quick-moving energies, but with the Moon in Leo at that time I thought a heads up wouldn’t hurt. Under the Venus/Neptune square our rose-colored glasses are even rosier which may be fun (Leo Moon) but could lead to a crash with the Sun illuminating the impetuous acts inspired by Uranus. Fortunately Mercury bestows some clarity of mind during this period, so enjoy the ride on Thursday and Friday. Don’t let your rose-colored glasses hide any red flags that may come up, and remember:

Monday May 18. Monday marks a big energetic shift, with Mars, Venus and Cancer all moving from active signs (Aries and Gemini) into receptive signs (Taurus and Cancer). This suggests greater stability and a slower pace than we have seen over the past month or so. Both the Moon and Venus enters Cancer almost simultaneously in the evening EDT, and the quality of our relationships and interactions becomes more gentle and the threads of compassion are easier to access. With the Moon in Cancer it becomes more important to feel safe in all circumstances, but right now our relationships are of paramount importance thanks to the Venus influence.

Creative energies are at a peak on Monday, and our imagination can lead us into very interesting places. If you find yourself at a crossroads and needing to make a decision or a choice, make it carefully because it could significantly affect your future. Wednesday May 20. Wednesday brings another energy portal with the Sun and Moon changing signs, but before then the Moon finishes its passage through Cancer by opening the heart to optimism and trust early in the day. Later in the evening we may have a few hours of emotional clearing that requires facing a hard truth or difficult emotion in order to move past that blockage once and for all.

In the evening we have the Sun entering Gemini and the Moon moving into Leo, shifting from the receptive energies of water and earth to air and fire, ramping up enthusiasm and an embrace of possibilities. We may be drawn in a direction that would take us backwards instead of towards an enlightened future. If there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. Suffering is an ineradicable part of life, even as fate and death. Without suffering and death human life cannot be complete. --Viktor Frankl

This week a friend of mine went to work and never came home. His car was hit by a joyrider driving over 100 mph and he died of his injuries in the hospital, leaving behind a beautiful family with two young boys and a loving wife. He was active in our community and left a wide swath of grief as we attempt to make some kind of sense of this tragedy.

Perhaps my friend’s wife, who in the span of 36 hours became a new widow, will experience a great blessing from this horrific event - I certainly hope that this is the case. One of my clients who lost her healthy husband over a year ago after a short illness struggles to understand how this could have happened. What about the parents of the children who have died in these school shootings? How can we find meaning in this?

Some will say “It’s all part of God’s plan.” I don’t know if that is enough. I do believe that some things are fated and beyond our control. I do believe that we have a contract for our life and we do come into this life with an astrological chart that describes our psychological tendencies and a path that we are likely to take. Our free will helps us to make some choices along the way, but when a car hits you from behind at 100 mph there is no choice involved there. That is fate. How to find meaning in that?

I’m sure if I looked at the charts involved I would see some kind of astrological significance. In my work with clients over the years I have seen that shocking events such as this ultimately result in incredible transformation in one way or another. The devastating accident that leaves a client with permanent injuries forces them to confront difficult truths and change their life. The death of a spouse brings reconciliation with adult children. The sudden death of a fiancé two weeks before a wedding leads to a spiritual exploration of great ultimate satisfaction. But the astrological significance doesn’t always help us to heal or to find the kind of meaning that would help us to find real peace.

The search for meaning is a critical piece of human psychology. In astrology it is Jupiter that illustrates how we will search for and find meaning in life. Even those who believe there is no meaning have established this as their belief system. But I believe that we are meant to ultimately find meaning in these tragedies. That there will be a gift in every experience of devastation. Studies have shown that finding meaning in tragedy helped the bereaved to live more meaningful lives in general. In a study of parents who had lost a child, “Benefit finding seemed to have special relevance 5 years post loss, as parents discussed such themes as new insights into the meaning of life and reordering priorities, deepening of existential beliefs, valuing the deceased child, the belief that the child’s suffering had ended, becoming more altruistic, and learning of one’s strength in the face of adversity.”

Finding meaning in tragedy ultimately means finding meaning in life. I believe that life is bigger than we can imagine, and that there is some kind of existence on either side of birth and death. I believe that there are many planes of existence and our physical life takes place in just one of those. I believe that experiences of loss and tragedy break us apart and offer the opportunity to be rebuilt in new and more powerful ways.

Not right away - not while our hearts are breaking. And there is no timeline for when grief and horror turns into understanding and acceptance and ultimately healing. I believe, though, that when we ask the right questions we are eventually given the answers and this will help us to find sense in the senseless and regain our place in this world. In the meantime I will seek the solace of meditation and prayer and ask that my friend and her children, and all beings who are suffering, be surrounded in grace and love, and that the gifts of meaning and understanding will be granted.

There is a magical flow to the zodiacal wheel as we watch the Sun traverse the twelve signs. We begin with the fire of Aries, settle into the earth of Taurus, awake into airy Gemini and move into the realm of feelings in Cancer. Then we begin the flow again with Leo fire, and so on.

Ever since January we have been feeling the force of the signs with stelliums in Aquarius, Pisces, and then most recently in Aries. That concentration of energies in a particular sign is fading, and this week we begin to see more Gemini influence (mental activity) entering the frame. What this means for you personally: With the intense concentration of Arian fire beginning to lessen, it will likely be easier to find periods of calm and peaceful integration with Taurus, and more curiosity without judgment under Gemini. If your nervous system has been taxed over the past month with all the fire, that will begin to calm down.

Here are some important dates to know this month:

Sun conjunct Mercury May 14. Variously known as combust and cazimi (depending on how close the conjunction is), the effect of the alliance between the Sun and Mercury lasts only a day or two. The light of the Sun illuminates with solar consciousness the intelligence and mental acuity of Mercury which can sometimes lead to flashes of brilliant insight.

New Moon SuperMoon in Taurus May 16. The influence of Taurus continues to grow in strength with a New SuperMoon this week. Taurus says, “This Earth is a beautiful place of peace and beauty, discover this and bask in its gifts.” A SuperMoon (™️ Richard Nolle) occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth. Usually we think of SuperMoons at the Full Moon, where the Moon rises big and beautiful in the sky, but the Super New Moons are just as potent and offer an opportunity to create potent intentions.

At the Taurus New Moon we can plant the seeds of material bounty: economic success, physical comfort and luxury, sensual experiences. The chart for the New Moon includes a tight alignment with Ceres and Mercury all in Taurus, but also Mars and Chiron in Aries which suggests some urgency around healing and releasing psycho-spiritual wounds which keep us stuck in the past. This is a time for self-care (Ceres), and using the mind (Mercury) to create space and rituals for an increase in abundance.

Mercury enters Gemini May 17. As the ruler of Gemini, Mercury is most at home in Gemini where curiosity and a thirst for experience can prevail; there is more fluidity and flexibility in our thoughts and actions which aid in the processing of experiences to enrich our day to day world. When Mercury moves into Gemini it will align with Uranus, the planet that inspires innovation and change. Where Mercury presides over communication and learning, Uranus encourages us to transcend what we think we know to be true and activates the higher centers of the mind. This opens the doorways to perception in exciting new ways.

Mars enters Taurus May 18. When Mars slows down and is forced to adhere to a disciplined structure as it does in Taurus, it draws more power and energy and its power can be expressed in a way that is more sustained and consistent.

Venus enters Cancer May 18. Venus, the planet of relationship and harmony, is highly sensitive when in the emotional sign of Cancer. Our relationships with others become more important, and we may have a heightened need to connect with others. The Moon will be in Cancer along with Venus for a day or two this week, making this an important time to connect with loved ones.

Monday May 11. The week begins with the Moon newly in mystical Pisces, drawing us into the realm of intuition and imagination. Monday and Tuesday are perfect days for any kind of creative endeavor, especially since the lunar aspects are overwhelmingly supportive. Monday’s lunar energies are quieter and may require more of an intentional push to manifest some of the creative potential. (Moon conjunct North Node 12:35 am, sextile Mercury 11:42 pm.)

Tuesday May 12. On Tuesday the Pisces Moon is more active, carrying more energy with which to achieve some of that magical Pisces wonder. Around 8 pm when the Moon enters Aries, though, the awakening could be dramatic and give us a push in an entirely different direction. Still, a Mercury/Jupiter aspect is building throughout the day which will help us to ground our ideas while helping us to expand our hopes and dreams beyond what we think is possible. Wednesday May 13. The big dreams linger throughout the day on Wednesday, pushed into maximal force by the fire of the Aries Moon. We may be brought back to earth in the afternoon, but rather than experience this as frustration we have the option to view any blocks as a reality check instead. Meanwhile the Sun begins to illuminate all matters of communication and information exchange over the next couple of days, making these issues of primary importance right now. (Mercury sextile Jupiter 12:43 am, Moon conjunct Neptune 2:20 am, sextile Pluto 5:34 am, conjunct Saturn 2:10 pm.)

Thursday May 14. The importance of communication and a fired-up mental process peaks on Thursday, and the Sun and Mercury illuminate the need to care for our own body/spirit system in the midst of mental fatigue. With the Moon in Aries, which can be abrupt, we may need to be a little careful about what we say. This is especially true in the afternoon and evening EDT when tensions may be high and emotional sensitivity makes us all a little reactive. These tensions will begin to ease when the Moon enters Taurus later in the evening EDT. (Moon square Jupiter 7:40 am, Sun conjunct Mercury 10:24 am, Moon sextile Venus 2:06 pm, Mercury conjunct Ceres 2:17 pm, Moon conjunct Mars 5:32 pm, conjunct Chiron 7:44 pm, Moon enters Taurus 10:31 pm, Sun conjunct Ceres 10:46 pm.)

Friday May 15. All of these aspects linger into Friday, as the Taurus Moon encourages us to calm the mind through specific practices of centering and mindfulness. This may be difficult in the morning when Pluto gets involved, but it is important nonetheless. Tension builds on Friday for Saturday’s New Moon and we will want to be ready. Saturday May 16. New Moon today! Remember there is a strong element of emotional sensitivity embedded in this New Moon so be prepared for emotional release. The Moon leaves Taurus for Gemini Saturday evening EDT, and the enhanced mental awareness of the past few days will continue as we head into Gemini season. (Moon sextile Jupiter 8:39 am, conjunct Ceres 2:28 pm, Mars conjunct Chiron 3:34 pm, New Moon 4:01 pm, Moon conjunct Mercury 9:02 pm, Moon enters Gemini 10:23 pm.)

Sunday May 17. Mercury enters Gemini today and aligns with Uranus. Prepare to be amazed! Meanwhile the Gemini Moon activates all of the centers in the network of the brain, encouraging us to step out of the known and into the imagined. Relationships with others are favored on Sunday and Monday, facilitating the healing of interpersonal problems that can change the course of our lives.

When I was young, I went to psychics for everything. Should I take this job? Should I stay with this man? Hampered by my Libran indecision, I longed for someone to just tell me what to do. Yes, THIS will be the right path to walk, not THAT one.

Over the years, psychics have told me many things. I would be selling condos at the beach (I did sell real estate, but not at the beach). I would marry the man that left me seven times (I didn’t). I would have three children (I have none). Very few specific predictions about the future come to pass exactly as predicted.

Astrology can predict the upcoming climate, but the specifics of what will happen remain unknown. Personally, I now believe that we are unable to predict the future because there are some things we are not supposed to know. Life is a process, an unfolding and a journey. The horoscope is a map that we’re given at birth, but we’re not given directions and a plan. That is our free will — to make our own decisions and follow our own roads.

Looking at upcoming planetary patterns provides us with a weather report that tells us what the climate will be for certain events or decisions, but whether or not we move forward is up to us. Examining how two birthcharts interact can tell us a great deal about the relationship those two people will have, but not whether they should be together. However, we ARE given the way to answer those questions and make those decisions! The answers really lie in the small voice that speaks within us when we are quiet enough to hear it–the voice that says YES! when the question is asked. We only need to learn to trust it.
