Sun enters Taurus April 19. With the Sun leaving Aries for grounded Taurus, we enter Taurus season. Under the influence of Taurus we learn to be guided by the wisdom of the natural world. Comfort, serenity and security become highly important, and the world of the senses becomes our beacon.
Typically Mercury follows the Sun from one sign to another, but with Mercury traveling retrograde through Aries and back again, Mercury won’t make the jump into Taurus until May 15.
Planets as teams. Currently the planets are bundled up into a small section of the zodiac, and we can think of this as the planets working in teams. We have the Aries team, with Venus, Mercury and Chiron guiding us towards more effective expression of will and desire. We have the Pisces team, with the ruler of the Aries team, Mars, dissolving into a blur of inspiration and hope. Despite the efforts of Saturn to create solid structures, with this strong Pisces influence the ground under our feet will continue to shift.
The Aries team and the Pisces team don’t work well together - in fact they are on completely different missions: Aries seeks adventure and the satisfaction of desire whereas Pisces seeks the easy flow and the path of least resistance. Don’t be surprised if you are pulled in multiple directions for this reason.
The third team is Jupiter and Uranus, which reach their exact conjunction this week on April 20th. In Taurus, the sign of earthly stability, the two planets of freedom and liberation virtually guarantee radical and transformative events.
The conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus culminates April 20 but these two planets will be working in tandem into early May. Those of us (me!) with planets between 15 and 29 degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius) will be most affected by this planetary cycle. We may find ourselves feeling more jittery than usual, or feeling like we desperately need a change. This planetary combination can be very useful for personal growth, and to help propel us out of situations which hold us back and keep us stuck, but these fixed signs do not embrace change easily and can be disturbed by these radical feelings and influences.
This is a good time to embrace the grounding influences of Taurus: The love of the natural world, spending time in the gardens and forests, communing with the nature devas.
Scorpio Full Moon next week on April 23. I wanted to briefly mention next week’s Scorpio Full Moon because Pluto, planet of intensity and transformation, is tightly wound into this lunar event. Pluto is Scorpio’s modern ruler so the inclusion of Pluto here doubles the passions and penetrative wisdom of this Full Moon. Pluto’s influence is a highlight of the influences for next week, not just the Full Moon, and we can prepare by being ready to take a trip into the underworld. When we delve into the truth of life and death, we have to leave our superficial belongings behind and stand before ourselves, naked and true.
