Astrological update for the week of February 26 - March 4, 2024
The activation of Jupiter and Uranus. In April, Jupiter and Uranus will converge in the sky, flooding us earthlings with freedom and liberation. Jupiter is a personal planet and reflects our own need to expand and grow as well as the desire for the freedom to accomplish this. Uranus is a transformational planet which triggers our need for an authentically personal life free from the restrictions of others or rules which don’t fit into our personal story.
The last conjunction of these two planets occurred in 1895-1900 - an incredible time of change and evolution. I will be writing more about this in the next week or two, but for now it’s enough to say that Mars is activating the conjunction and instigating the winds of change that will accelerate over the next few weeks.
Mercury and the Sun also interact with Uranus this week (Mercury sextile Uranus March 4, Sun sextile Uranus March 9), helping us to embrace new ideas and perhaps even see ourselves in new ways. It’s easy to become stuck in one particular viewpoint, and it’s the role of Uranus to shake the dust out of the curtains so that we are able to see more clearly and with new eyes.
Mercury conjunct Neptune March 8 and enters Aries March 9. Speaking of shaking the dust out of curtains, or perhaps more accurately shaking the faery dust out of our eyes, Mercury has been in Pisces for the past few weeks and while we may have felt creative and inspired, this is not the most grounding placement for Mercury. The potential for confusion peaks in the latter part of this week with Mercury merging in Pisces with Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces.
Mercury represents the thought function, communication and the manner in which we process our experiences. Neptune is the Great Dissolver, the planet of mystery, mysticism and true spirituality. With Neptune present we face the fact that life more than mere physical reality, and we long to ascend to an experience of the divine.
The conjunction can bring out the best of the two planets or the worst and the fact that both planets are in Pisces magnifies both ends of the spectrum. Our awareness and intellect may expand to channel that divine experience into music, art and writing, with life becoming more imaginative, more mysterious. Alternative, our sense of ordinary reality may become obscured as we reach for the ideal image rather than see what is right in front of us. There can be confusion, illusion and delusion, as well as fabrication and lies.
The combination of Uranian clarity with Neptunian idealism is a tricky one to balance. This is a good week to try to stay grounded, especially since the Pisces New Moon will intensify the whole situation. 👇 Mercury will make the shift from Pisces to Aries just after the New Moon which will inject a bit of fire to help break through the cloudy mists of magic and illusion.
New Moon SuperMoon 20 Pisces March 10. The Pisces New Moon is a SuperMoon, it is at its closest point to Earth with a magnified influence on us Earthlings, and all of the planetary energies described above are present at that time.
My best advice for this New Moon is to let go of any ideas of how things Should Be - Pisces urges us to let go of the material world, even if only for a moment, and sit in the Presence of the Divine Mind. The wisdom that comes from within our own hearts may blur the veil between worlds, but it may also be the thing that sets us free.
The challenging square from Mars to Uranus will have just culminated and the breakthroughs of that aspect may still be in effect. If confusion is preventing us from taking action, simply wait until the mists have cleared and the way forward is more evident.
Venus enters Pisces March 11. Venus is in its exaltation in Pisces where compassion and intuitive connection can purify our relationships and values. While Venus is in Pisces we may feel more romantic than usual; more open to love and even a bit luckier. Still, there’s always a danger with Pisces that we not become so enraptured by the rose-colored illusion that we lose our sense of material reality.
Venus will be in Pisces until April 5th.

Here’s else you need to know this week. (Dates and times are for the Eastern time zone, here is a time zone converter to adjust for your locality.) Here is a link to an ephemeris if you would like to check the degrees of these planetary placements.
Monday March 4. We begin the week with the Moon in optimistic Sagittarius, and the Mercury/Uranus promotes the idea of thinking outside the box. You may encounter something surprising or have a sudden revelation or brilliant idea. The Moon will enter Capricorn in the afternoon EST and bring us back down to earth. The Capricorn Moon can help us to devise a plan to bring that brilliant idea to life. (Mercury sextile Uranus 3:23 pm, Moon enters Capricorn 4:15 pm.)
Tuesday March 5. Tuesday is a good day to get down to business. The Capricorn Moon provides focus and clarity, and harmonious planetary aspects support us with optimism and positive energy. There may be a burst of emotional reactivity under a Chiron aspect later in the evening, but this could lead to a healing transformation of some kind that blooms into an important realization on Wednesday. (Moon sextile Saturn 10:37 am, Moon trine Jupiter 1:30 pm, Moon sextile Sun 8:01 pm, Moon square the lunar nodes 8:06 pm, Moon square Chiron 10:39 pm.)
Wednesday March 6. Wednesday continues the positive trend, and the Capricorn Moon continues to help us to focus on practicalities and planning for successful outcomes. The energies of healing and growth that began Tuesday evening may culminate on Wednesday into a renewed sense of wholeness.
The Moon will move into Aquarius Wednesday evening and conjoin Pluto shortly thereafter and the vibe will shift. The Aquarius Moon will offer greater detachment and filter our experience through the realm of ideas, while the Pluto influence takes us deep into the Underworld where the real Truth can be found. (Moon trine Uranus 2:28 am, sextile Mercury 7:54 am, sextile Neptune 2:35 pm, Mars sextile Chiron 6:03 pm, Moon enters Aquarius 7:38 pm, Moon conjunct Pluto 9:54 pm.)
Thursday March 7. The metamorphosis of wounds into wisdom (Mars sextile Chiron) that comes through healing lingers into Thursday, and the Aquarius Moon helps us to make sense of it all. But the Piscean influence is creeping back in, with Mercury and Neptune beginning to converge. Thursday would be a good day to step back and assess the situation with clear vision. The next few days will bring some clouds and Piscean mists and will be better suited for creative and spiritual adventures. (Moon square Jupiter 4:07 pm.)
Friday March 8. Enjoy the last day of Aquarian intelligence: The Moon enters Pisces Friday evening and prepares for Sunday’s New Moon. We may feel somewhat out of sorts on Friday, especially in the very early morning on the east coast, later morning in Europe and points east, and late Thursday in the western U.S.
Any sense of disruption will soon ease, but the danger of misunderstandings or illusion will linger and will morph into the impulsivity of Mars/Uranus which culminates on Saturday. Friday is a good day to find your center and spend some beneficial time in nature to help ground and calm any jangled nerves.
Saturday March 9. The influence of Mars and Uranus can seem disruptive, and that can feel quite irritating when the Moon is in Pisces where we long to have that experience of flow. That is today’s situation. The lunar aspects are mostly beneficial, with the help of Saturn to provide focus and Jupiter to add confidence, and the Sun supports the efforts of Uranus to awaken and shake us out of our dreamy ignorance.
Whenever we have divergent planetary influences it becomes necessary to find a way to integrate them. So today we have disruption and change (Uranus and Aquarius) combining with a need for peacefulness and flow (Pisces). And on top of that, Mercury entering Aries to fire up the mind and passions. (Moon conjunct Saturn 1:22 pm, sextile Jupiter 4:24 pm, Mars square Uranus 5:55 pm, Sun sextile Uranus 6:01 pm, Mercury enters Aries 11:02 pm.)
Sunday March 10. The Pisces New Moon is today - an emergence of heart-opening compassion and the illumination of imagination. With the New Moon at its closest point to Earth making it a SuperMoon, it may be easier to tune into our heart’s desires as we chart our course for the next month. Intentions planted at the New Moon can come to fruition, and the SuperMoon can make these instincts stronger and more clear.
This is especially true with Mercury harmonizing with Pluto on Sunday - Pluto teaches us to dig deep for the Truth that lies beneath the surface and is perfect for a process of self-examination. The Moon will enter fiery Aries in the evening EST and we will begin to move out of the Piscean mists into the fire of Spring. 🌷
